https://amf.didiermary.fr/sho-madjozi-dumi-hi-phone/
From her debut album “Limpopo Champions League“.
Here’s a fresh track from Sho Madjozi, a big name in South Africa’s burgeoning gqom music scene—that spare, darkly textured and infectious dance sound that evolved out of house music. The 25-year-old rapper does her work in the Xitsonga language, choosing to remain true to her mother tongue. […]

flipsideza, 23 more days of guaranteed uninterrupted power in #SouthAfrica 😂
How many days are you expecting it to take for #LoadShedding to come back?
AndyK1970, @flipsideza I expect stage 8 on 30 May.
flipsideza, @AndyK1970 Ooof that would be a major blow
cybeardjm, On this day in 1980, the South African government banned Pink Floyd's single 'Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)' after Black children adopted the song as their anthem in protest against inferior education.

Our findings, based on a synthesis and review of existing research on #ClimateChange, are that climate change and socioeconomic risks threaten to bring about a huge change to this status."
timrichards, Quite enjoy my daily photo cull on whatever today's date is - ends up reminding me of good times past. Here I am on my first arvo in Cape Town, South Africa, on 30 April 2018.
timrichards, And this set of power points was in my Cape Town hotel room. Was quite excited by the weird one on the far left, as I had an adapter for it which I'd never used up till then!
skinnylatte, @timrichards they use that in India
carkner, My friend here in Johannesburg was showing me this very cool new book last night:
"The Indian Africans is a fresh take on the contested terrain of race, ethnicity, identity and political strategy. [...] the history of South Africans of Indian descent has to be looked at through African lenses. The book produced by the amateur historians is a thoughtful addition to the growing literature on worker-inspired narratives."

danie10, Why after nearly 20 years I moved away from Vodacom – Loyalty often does not Pay
I’ve been with Vodacom since just after number porting went live in South Africa, and I’ve been on a contract with them for most of that time until after I retired from work, and no longer had a work cellphone allowance. It was just cheaper to move ...continues
pee, @danie10 and safer for now with a Private Operator (depending on the Privacy Policy) than with a Full Operator too I guess, the way they profile and sell your Data. But who knows how long until greed hooks the Private Operators and you get 'We are changing our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy' in favor of Zuckerberg and other Data Brokers - free W/App and Facebook, so Zuck gets his daily fix of your location.
danie10, @pee yes so far this particular one has never been in the news for being hacked or selling data. They were already my ISP for fibre so in a way I lesson my exposure a bit.
governorkeagan, I have finally finished mapping the section of the map I was working on since December for my personal project. If I've understood #JOSM correctly, I've added about 800 buildings to this section. I don't recall the exact number of buildings here before I started but I'll assume about 10% of what is currently mapped.
I'll probably take a small break from mapping in #southafrica and focus some more on validating tasks in #ireland.

governorkeagan, Finally got back to mapping some more of my home town in #southafrica
I've been slowly adding buildings as there are almost none in certain areas. However, I decided to work on fixing some things in a local park and cemetery (adding some missing details etc.)

CelloMomOnCars, Taps have run dry across #SouthAfrica’s largest city in an unprecedented water crisis
"A country already famous for its hourslong electricity shortages is now adopting a term called “watershedding” — the practice of going without water, from the term loadshedding, or the practice of going without power.
Monitoring of water usage by municipalities found that 40% of #Johannesburg’s water is wasted through leaks, which includes burst pipes."
CelloMomOnCars, There are many reasons for the water shortage in Johannesburg, from delays in the construction of the Lesotho dam, to leaking water pipes, to a growing population with high per-capita water consumption.
The system is brittle. The good news is that there are lots of ways to improve all this before climate change really starts to bite.

This lioness is being dragged to her death! #CannedHunting is the hunting of captive-bred animals in a confined area from which they cannot escape. The pictures below speak so many words and shows the gruesome, unforgivable pain that these #lions go though everyday! There are around 12,000 lions in captivity, while there are just 3,000 in the wild In #SouthAfrica.

Where I live in #pretoria there are no operational street lights. Today I saw those guys below replacing some bulbs. We have elections coming up and the #anc is facing unprecedented political competition. We can use data on #nighttime #light density, before and after the elections, to test for a political cycle.

danie10, @Linux_in_a_Bit yes it may be early days still. Thing is we're looking at a radio only solution, so we are still bound by the 1% or so duty cycle. We need it to be Internet free so what we have in the LoRa restrictions, is what we're working with.
