I did download both the latest Linux Mint Cinnamon and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS; While at work, I will decide which distro to install. Even though I weighted Ubuntu lower in my list, I’m drawn to it! Tonight, I will be making bootable drives using balenaEtcher.
@WanderingInDigitalWorlds Can't go wrong either way. You know what my preference is, but you're in good hands no matter what. Also, I would suggest putting Ventoy on your USB and copying the ISOs over to that. In this manner, you can boot from multiple images on the same USB stick. Compare and contrast. It's what I use. I must have 10 ISOs on one 32 GB USB drive... ;>)
@wendigo I’ll consider Ventoy as after reading the page, seems like a slick software! It might delay my installation till tomorrow though. I’ll have to read the instructions several times over. ROFL Anxiety for the win and loss.
Satya Nadella says Windows PCs will have a photographic memory feature called Recall that will remember and understand everything you do on your computer by taking constant screenshots. This is a great reason to ditch windows altogether. Switch to #Linux 🧑💻 They don’t care about your privacy or safety anymore and not hiding it either. @nixCraft I still have to keep Windows (10) around for some things, but I cut off all updates right before they rolled out the Copilot crap. I'm a bit worried about the potential problems from lack of updates, but I'm 1,000,000x more worried about the potential problems from updates... I've had some pains trying to switch to Linux (particularly in gaming) but have mostly managed to finally completely switch over just in time though. Congratulations MS on chasing away even hardcore gamers.
Free as in Freedom cloud gaming? Without technically & mentally closed NVIDIA Geforce NOW? :linux:
🎮 🌥️ NETRIS🌥️ 🎮
◉Open cloud gaming with feats familiar of Stadia
◉Utilizes Proton (Valve) to play Windows games without Microsoft
◉Developers aim Netris as GeForce NOW alternative
◉For now a Chrome-based browser needed but Firefox support coming?
◉ "We ensure your favorite games are always ready to play on Linux"
Congrats and thank you to Andrew Lukoshko, Ben Thomas, Cody Robertson, Elkhan Mammadli, @jonathanspw and @Conan_Kudo for serving as the inaugural ALESCo members. #linux#opensource
Hey #Linux users of fedi- what #terminal emulator do you use? I'm looking for a QT, Wayland-compatible emulator to use. I don't really like Konsole and I've been having bugs in Tabby, so figured I'd ask here
@geobomatic j'avoue en utilisant une grande distribution sous Wayland comme Fedora, j'ai juste eu à installer les drivers nvidia et c'est parti mon kiki
"GNOME Wayland sucks because I have to decorate my own windows which is out of the scope for my project."
Just... Don't? :confused_dog: If GNOME doesn't want to have a fallback for server-side decorations, then the intended functionality of the desktop is to just not have window decorations for your app. If people open bug reports about it, close them and direct them to the GNOME issue tracker. I don't get why this is considered a stopper for so many developers targeting Wayland. Just don't have them, I don't get it. :neocat_what:
@Rusty to be more precise here, GTK is moving away from exposing drawing primitves which you could f.e. use to render widgets into your own buffer (as needed for server side widgets and deco). This has a number of reasons I won't go into. Abother factor is that modern GTK does not like not owning the event loop. These are genuine architecture design trade-offs and hard to solve / get right, so saying "they just don't want to" is reductionism and ultimately unhelpful.
Shit like this is why you'll have to pry desktop #linux from my cold dead hands. I won't sign on for #privacy destroying #ai bullshit. Not now, not ever. Die in a fire #Microsoft#Windows
@thelinuxcast Yep. While the Ars comments are pretty sane, I just marvel at the level of brain damage people must have in order to cheer for shit like this.
OK, I submitted an abstract for kernel summit track: "TPM2 story so far...". It would be from the angle of thinking it more like a protocol or contract that all kinds of hardware and TEE's can speak than just a chip per se...
Not that motivated to travel, so not a huge disappointment if not accepted :-) But yeah I have an angle and will prepare that one properly if accepted. So done my duty I guess at least...
Hey does any #Linux / #Godot expert know where player preferences are saved for each game? I've created a file "save_data.fly" but I can't find where it has been placed and it does not come up in a system-wide search.
@LexGear@tracefree In case you did like the flatpak install aside from this issue, note that you can grant flatpaks access to the real file system (vs. the default sandbox they're restricted to).
Flatseal is a nice GUI app for this task. You can break the sandbox completely or give access to specific parts of your file system for example.
@popey I've had to use photorec / testdisk recently to recover two computers in as many months. It nearly got a corrupted windows hdd booting again haha.
