“If somebody’s got an alcohol problem or a drug problem, there’s nothing you can do”: the epic life of Don Airey, the man who has worked with Ozzy Osbourne, Ritchie Blackmore and Gary Moore and lived to tell the tale
Ozzy, Richie Blackmore, Gary Moore - keyboard maestro Don Airey has worked with them all and has the stories to prove it
Sometimes when I tell people that I am an #Absolutist (a person who doesn't do drugs, drink or eat anything with alcohol in it, and doesn't smoke any tobacco or such products) people react weirdly.
For example some doctors have been borderline expressing that they think I am lying since I am fat and have to have more vices than food and very still life style.
Almost like they can't believe someone could live life like this in #Finland where the national past time is #Alcoholism.
Today in Labor History January 12, 1876: Working class novelist Jack London was born. As a kid, he was an oyster pirate in Oakland, along the shores of the San Francisco Bay. As a young man, he became a hobo, riding the rails from town to town, looking for handouts and sometimes work. He wrote about these experiences in his short novel, “The Road.” He was also a lifelong alcoholic, which contributed to his early death. In his novel, “John Barleycorn,” he wrote about both his alcoholism and his experiences as a laborer in numerous low-paid, backbreaking jobs. He was also a socialist and a champion of unions and working-class activism. With respect to strikebreakers, he famously wrote: "After God had finished the rattlesnake, the toad, the vampire, He had some awful substance left with which He made a scab. A scab is a two-legged animal with a cork-screw soul, a water-logged brain, a combination backbone of jelly and glue. Where others have hearts, he carries a tumor of rotten principles." London was also one of the first Haoles (non-Native Hawaiian, or white person) to learn how to surf in Hawaii.
Just last week I watched "Another Round", a movie about alcohol consumption during midlife crisis, and I still think about it. Reading that Matthew Perry died yesterday, after a life of #alcoholism and drugs, makes the movie even harder to forget.
Take care of the people around you. Help them if they are struggling or fight #depression. Don't let them be taken by alcohol or drugs.
@nixCraft Well, two are a taste, the #alcoholism is an addiction from which people are suffering (actively and passively) intensely and which is socially trivialized and people are stigmatized. So hopefully, people with the third option have a social environment that provides help and understanding for all who need it. Look for help, you are not alone although it may seem so. :BigBlobhajHug:
Grief, second chance and hope are at the heart of Kristin Kisska’s novel, The Hint of Light. After her son’s sudden death, Margaret Dobrescu is devastated. Her heart is broken and she feels responsible for the tragedy. But with time, secrets start to resurface and the grieving mother learns that her son may have left a daughter behind.
Apparently, The #Biden administration committed the unforgivable crime of acknowledging that the National Institute on Abuse and #Alcoholism suggests limiting #alcohol consumption to two beers per week. It isn't an edict, or mandate. It's just a suggestion based on the evidence. But that didn't stop #TedCruz from losing his shit, and acting like it was the first act of a #fascist government. I think Biden should impose a limit, but one that only applies to Ted Cruz.
Anyone in #California have recommendations for in patient recovery and detox centers? North state preferred. For a loved one, not myself. #addiction#recovery#alcoholism
I barely made it out alive, and didn't escape its destructive effects until my #marriage blew up and brought everything I'd repressed to a roiling boil.
