Remains of a 6th/7th century basilica in Gortyn on the island of #Crete. Excavators dubbed it the "church of St. Titus" assuming by its size that it was dedicated to the island's patron saint, but the actual dedication is not known.
King Minos of #Crete was married to Pasiphaë, daughter of #Helios, the Sun. After he had been unfaithful several times, she cursed #Minos so he couldn't have sex with mortal women because he would ejaculate snakes, scorpions, and millipedes. As a goddess, #Pasiphaë herself remained unbothered when she slept with her husband. The Athenian girl Prokris overcame the spell by essentially inventing the #condom in the form of a goat's bladder.
According to Greek myth, a young Epimenides of Cnossos once fell asleep in the sacred Cave of Zeus inside Crete’s Mount Ida. After awakening, he discovered that 57 years had passed as he slept. The experience was said to have given him the gift of prophecy. #MythologyMonday
A shocking article in Romanian about how 30 vulnerable #women from #Romania , #Ukraine , #Moldova , #Albania , #Bulgaria and #Georgia were 'trafficked by a criminal gang', based in #Crete - to be exploited as egg donors and #surrogate mothers. Their babies were then sold for international adoption. The group made €70-120 thousand per woman

Hi, I am a nearly half a century old Dutch person who is overwhelmed a lot of the time.
I am dedicated to working decades of old trauma out of my rickety body.
When I get rid of the all-pervasive fear I'll hopefully start painting again, which made me feel like everything was right with the world.
For now I'm creatively constipated and trying to navigate through the fog in my head. (It's hard to find words.)
Would like to follow un-normal people who are as inconsistent as I am.
One day post photos of cats, food, moss, next day rage against the government's herd immunity policy, be quiet and thoughtful the next.
Sometimes I actually manage to say something insightful or funny.
