Here's something that's been annoying me for a while. I want to get notified of new emails when they arrive on my iPhone. So I made sure that notifications are turned on for the mail app in the settings, all that...
I still don't get notified of new emails immediately when they arrive, and for that matter, the mail app still shows no unread email despite there being at least one.
Anyone's got any idea what the hell is up with that and how to get it working as I want? #email#ios#iOS16

This #Mastodon / #email bridge <https://tacobelllabs.net/@nkizz/110340426573847934> by @nkizz is just brilliant, but you know what would absolutely ROCK? A #Fediverse server that had native support for #IMAP.
While we're on the topic, I wonder if anybody has thought about building a client with an UX inspired by Usenet newsreaders (personally, MicroPlanet Gravity was one of the few things I missed from Windows when I switched to Linux, would love to see something like that for Mastodon.)
For anyone who might have missed it last week, I wrote an article about why I switched from Gmail to Proton Mail and you can read it and hopefully share it with others via the link below.
@protonmail also suggested that I apply for the partner program, which I did but haven't heard back yet. Hoping to hear back in the next day or two and hoping that I get accepted.
Time flies, doesn't it?
20 years ago today, a new cross-platform, open-source application called Thunderbird debuted from the foundations of Mozilla Mail.
Some of you have been with us this entire time, and we are so honored to have you on this journey with us.
A note to the roughly 5 other people on the planet who run their own mail server - do you reject the spam/scam/malware source of the email (returning a reject automagically) or do you let the process quietly discard it? I do the latter.
It made sense when a lot of people ran their own mail servers (mainly businesses) as it could delay and maybe prevent some from recently the bad email before the source got added to a block list, but now with everyone using something like gmail (BTW a huge source of spam in recent years) it doesn't seem worth it.
gandi changed their free mail service (advertised as a free addition to your domain) to paid one and it cost 4EUR/month per mailbox, there is also a yearly option, which cost 48EUR/year 😄
The service isn't bad, but I wouldn't say it's great in some way either.
Every time I sign up for a service, here comes the marketing emails. Are these "newsletters" even working anymore? It's gotten to a point where I just created a "burner" email account just to safely "delete all" my emails periodically.
Curious how to get that shiny new “Supernova” look? Here’s a step-by-step guide on activating Vertical Layout, Cards View, and Tags Mode in Thunderbird 115.
I've decided to give @fastmail a try and see what it's all about.
While I'm happy with Gmail, I'd like to move away from it for various reasons. The main reason being to have a new email address where I hopefully don't get as much spam. I've had my Gmail account since the first day invites were a thing.
I'd like to try and hide my email address a bit better if at all possible.
I'm currently testing the free version. Not sure if the paid version is for me.
Huge thanks to @protonmail for accepting me into the Partners program today!
Super excited to be a part of this.
Remember, if you're looking for a more secure email service, Proton is the way to go and if you want to give Mail Plus a try for one month free, let me know and I can provide you with a referral link!
And now, #Mastodon instance admins are blocking mastodon.social that serves as an important entry point to the #fediverse, killing Mastodon instead of fighting the spam accounts.
My GOD the new Outlook that I was forced to "upgrade" to is nightmarish. Can anyone recommend a PC desktop #EmailApp that works for you professionally? A really robust one?
I wonder if it would be possible to configure my #postfix mail server to reject emails from #GMail and #Microsoft (replying they are not accepted because of spying users) 🤔
Is it a good idea? Is there anybody doing that?
I know it will cut me out of many contacts but I really don't want to be targeted by their algorithms.
