This #OpenSource#FlipperZero alternative is looking like a great new tool to tinker with. It's using a #HackBat hat on a #RaspberryPi, it's cheaper, and the source code is available. Anyone on #Fedi make one yet?
I was thinking maybe I can use my #FlipperZero as netboot iso wallet and put fedora on it, but, well, I mean it works but, I'd like to finish this today
#FlipperZero is so much fun. I've cloned my ORCA card, emulated my TV and sound bar remotes, done some WiFi hacking with the dev board, and messed around with sub-gHz. What a nifty thing! Feels good to have a toy that isn't explicitly a video game (although it can run doom)
I bought a transparent case for my #FlipperZero but it appears already bent/molten(?) right out of the package, and also the NFC/RFID antenna is not easy to get out of the original case, and there were a lot of misalignments (like the 1wire pins), so I decided not to go through with it.
Figured I'd share here, those transparent aliexpress cases are unsurprisingly not great quality, I don't recommend them. Here are some pics though
'Security researchers used a $169 Flipper Zero device and a Wi-Fi development board to obtain a driver's credentials, break into a Tesla Model 3 and drive away.'
I'd only add though that it's not necessary to buy €5k+ equipment – sometimes you need equipment for much less value; check PandaRF Rogue Pro & Kaiju rolling code analyzer, or CAN Injection https://kentindell.github.io/2023/04/03/can-injection/ . Point still stands though: that ban is extremely stupid
I wonder if 20 years of cramming "#hackers" into every story that involves computers being broken (or broken into) has anything to do with #Canada banning #FlipperZero? :thaenkin:
Surely, media focusing every such story, for decades, on some nebulous "hackers" instead of on companies who could not be bothered to secure their stuff properly in no way affected the public perception of who's to blame. :blobcatcoffee:
But please, do tell me how we should not fight for this term anymore. 🙄
It really bothers me how even the techies and hacker types not just give up on this — but spend their energy arguing against pushing back against the h-word abuse.
Even when it so blatantly and so directly hurts them, as with the #FlipperZero case.
I mean, thanks #LinusTechTips for helping make Flipper Zero bans a thing, by way of clickbaity videos. Well done. Got your clicks, I hope!
If you are an IT professional, cybersecurity specialist or amateur radio operator in Canada - you might consider signing this petition and contacting your MP - banning a specific manufacturer/model of an SDR (software-defined-radio) is sheer lunacy and not going to stop anyone from stealing cars...
you thought banning flipper zero was bad? get on Germany's level:
banning f12 and looking at the source code.
punishable with 3000 bucks.
and not for doing anything malicious with it. no. for responsible disclosure. IE: reporting a vuln to the company running it, waiting for it to be fixed, then reporting on it widely so people affected know they are pawned.
what this means worst case: don't have any data stored with german companies, if you do, assume you are pawned and nobody can tell you, for fear of legal retribution.
