#Trump didn't ultimately run in the election in the following year. But he did plant the seeds for himself in the #GOP primary by vaulting to the top of the polls on the #birtherism#racist#ConspiracyTheory#lie that President Barack #Obama may not have been born in the United States.
For context, when this issue came up in 2011, #Trump was beginning to talk about running for president in the 2012 #Republican primary. He had been promoting the #birtherism#ConspiracyTheory lie about President #Obama’s, suggesting Obama was an illegitimate president, & was gaining traction in polls w/ [#WhiteSupremacists] as he did.

Even though #Pecker knew the story was false, he paid $30k for it. He previously testified that he thought it would have been an embarrassment to the #TrumpCampaign. But #Bove is trying to get Pecker to agree that he instead paid for the story to avoid losing it to another publication.
