Was looking at foody photos on Pinterest, and they show me a stolen copy of one of my Downloadable Coloring Pages...again.
Instead of filling out the copyright-takedown forms, I'm posting a link to my shop. Buy directly from artists! We're so tired of having our work stolen.
A phalanx of Yeti crabs cause I made a pattern with my linocut Yeti crab (Kiwa hirsuta), a crustacean with silky blond setae (resembling fur, which reminded scientists of the Abomnible Snowman) found on the Pacific-Antarctic Ridge. #InsertAnInvert2024.
The Yeti crab was found during the 2005 Census of Marine Life, near hydrothermal vents along the Pacific-Antarctic Ridge, 1,500 km S of Easter Island at a depth of 2,200 m. 🧵
The 2008 book, A TIME TRAVELLER'S FIELD NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS OF DINOSAURS; I'm posting more of my illustrations (it is a fictional story, so be prepared for plenty of inaccuracies). Here is a drinking Stegosaurus.
The 2008 book, A TIME TRAVELLER'S FIELD NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS OF DINOSAURS; I'm posting more of my illustrations (it is a fictional story, so be prepared for plenty of inaccuracies). Here are the Triassic reptiles that feature in the book.
Today is World Turtle Day. I was commissioned by Turtle Survival Alliance, to revisit my ‘Turtles, all the way down’ print again, with a variety of wonderful but sadly endangered turtle species of special focus, in 2 prints: 1 for turtles from around the world, and 1 for North American species. Turtle Survival Alliance works to prevent extinctions of these amazing and varied animals worldwide, 🧵 #linocut#printmaking#WorldTurtleDay#turtle#sciArt#conservation#endangeredSpecies#biodiversity
The 2008 book, A TIME TRAVELLER'S FIELD NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS OF DINOSAURS; I'll post a bunch of my illustrations. It is a fictional story, so be prepared for plenty of inaccuracies, for example, there is no evidence for autotomy in Tanystropheus.
Finished! BOREAS DANCES ON TABLE ROCKS, 19x13”, pearlescent watercolor on handmade black paper. Depicting the May 10, 2024 solar storm over Upper and Lower Table Rocks in southern Oregon. What a night! (BOREAS, the Greek god of the north wind, is what the aurora borealis are named for.)
Here’s a crustacean with crab in its name for #InsertAnInvert2024. Is it a crab? No, not a crab! This is a handprinted lino block print of the Yeti crab (Kiwa hirsuta), a crustacean with silky blond setae (resembling fur, which reminded scientists of the Abomnible Snowman) found on the Pacific-Antarctic Ridge. The Yeti crab was found during the 2005 Census of Marine Life, near hydrothermal vents along the Pacific-Antarctic Ridge, 🧵1/n
This year, the SETI AIR program is launching a series of new residencies, each focused on a discipline, or “territory,” of creative practice. The first residency off the starting block is Cosmic Consciousness, which interweaves language and the written word with the exploration of consciousness and intelligence.
For International Tea Day, my Green Tea Chemistry print. This linocut illustrates green tea and its chemistry. There's a tea pot, two cups of tea and a tea plant (Camellia sinensis) on a tray, and in the steam, you can see some of the organic chemicals found in green tea. Up to 27% of the composition of green tea can be a member of the flavonoids called catechins like the molecule illustrated on the right. 🧵1/n

Happy birthday to #paleontologist Mary Anning (1799 –1847)! She was the wrong class, sex & religious denomination to gain the education, opportunity to work & communicate her results or garner any respect as a pioneering paleontologist. Further, during her lifetime most people thought Earth was a mere few thousand years old, based on a very literal interpretation of the Bible & found the idea of extinction did not fit in with the story of creation. 🧵1/ #linocut#sciart#womenInSTEM#printmaking
In 2007 I painted a mural on the ceiling of an exhibition room at Pools Cavern Visitor Centre, Derbyshire, UK. It was a Carboniferous scene, partly depicting life on land but mostly marine and freshwater species. It was fun but it demanded long hours and a few nights sleep in my car.
