#radio#terra#rock#music#streaming
Explore the wilder, more #experimental side of my work with Metaphysical Shitposting, an evolving collection (new tracks added about once a month) of #drone, #ambient and #soundscape pieces, with the occasional splash of musique concrete, #kosmische and #noise mixed in to keep things interesting.
The only instrument sounds on this track are from the #Soma#Terra. It's a remarkable instrument, and really great to play. The night I made this, I needed to unwind and playing the Terra is great for that. So I did.
I liked some of the sounds I was getting so I decided to try to use Loopy Pro to make a track with it. I had been meaning to spend some time with Loopy and this seemed like a great opportunity. It was.
I know a lot of polymaths, but @adapalmer takes the cake: brilliant science fiction writer, brilliant historian, brilliant librettist, brilliant singer, and then some:
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this thread to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:

R terra is like freaking black magic. Just rasterized 1496388 line features (extracted from OSM) in less than 14 seconds 🤯 The size of the reference raster 14177x14674, the whole state of Jalisco (80k km²) at a pixel size of 30 meters. Actually this is rasterizing AND writing the output geotiff with deflate compression. #rspatial#terra
Also used this! (That's the #Soma#Terra if you aren't familiar.)
This patch was based off a simple 4 note sequence sent to the 0-Coast/Strega combo, patched so that the voices alternated to some degree (via some clever use of envelopes IIRC).
I multed out of that and into the Panharmonium to get some harmony. It's set to +7 semitones and the center frequency and bandwidth are modulated to get some tonal variations. Output of that goes into Doepfer SEM filter, into Tallin VCA, and then out.
This is an album-in-progress, meaning I'll be adding material to it (and maybe even changing stuff that's already there) over time. Right now, it's two tracks and you can get it for $3. As tracks are added the price will go up, but if you buy it now, you own all of it forever no matter how many tracks are added.
The two tracks already posted are fuzzed out, distorted, tape-burnt and noisy. Both feature some of my earliest recordings with the #Soma#Terra . One pairs it with Benjolin, as I attempted to "jam" with the Benjolin. That got cut up, some effects were added and that's it. Other was a full, quick, track recorded to my beat up Tascam 414 4-track cassette multitracker. One track of Make Noise Strega/0-Coast, one track of Terra, one track Yamaha PSS-470 thru a Korg Monotron Delay, one of samples.
You get "so much money I can make my own TV series" levels of money. Obviously after funding all the paleontological digs around, what TV shows do you bring back that were cancelled too soon
For me its a close match between #Stargate#Universe and #Terra#Nova
How bout everyone else. What cancelled show would you bring back?
Had my #Soma#Terra for 3 weeks now (time flies!) and it's as remarkable as I'd hoped. It just begs to be played which sets it apart from so many of my synths, most of which almost necessitate programming (on a patch level, or via sequencing, or both) to maximize their potential. It's very weird and not always easy to coax something specific from, but it's beautiful and engrossing.
Did my own #BandcampFriday purchases! A relatively small month, as I have recently spent all of my available cash on a new synth... but I did pick up my designated minimum: one discography, one thing from my wishlist backlog, and one thing new I discovered this month.
@dobbie003 oh cool, how old is your son and what is he getting?
I got the #Soma#Terra, which is a really weird synth from a small European company. Here's a video demo from the designer of the synth in case you are curious:
My #Soma#Terra was supposed to be delivered today but the tracking hasn't updated in 36 hours 🥴
Update: shipment was on hold until I paid customs.
DHL customer service is nearly completely useless, BTW. An hour AFTER I got an automated message about the duty payment required, they responded to my email inquiry from the day prior to misinform me it wasn't on hold; just missed a truck. LMAO WHAT? That's whack. Especially since you only have five days to pay the duty or they send it back.
