🕹️ Ready for a retro gaming session with my 3 kids.

You can see a SNK Neogeo MVSx running the game Shock Trooper.

All, I'm happy to announce that my game CICS Dungeon is out now. You can get a copy here: https://github.com/mainframed/CICS_Dungeon/ all you need is a mainframe! (Don't worry, a docker container with one is provided).

Just a note, I'm not a C programmer, let alone a good C programmer so pull requests that improve my code are highly welcome!

There’s an eBay listing for 52 old Macs as one job lot in Illinois. It’s kind of intense. I hope it all finds a good home! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276078935767

Kinda reminds me that one time when a complete collection was offered for €30k buy now / €15k asking but I didn't knew anyone able and willing to get it!

IBM mainframe fans might be interested in the MVS/CE distribution of MVS 3.8J. This system is built on a Python bootstrap so that the system generation can be modified and extended, and it supports a package manager called MVP written in Rexx.

100 BCE: Wealthy Romans' entertainment was watching poor people fighting for their lives at the Colosseum.

2023 CE: Wealthy American's entertainment is pretending they will cage fight each other for likes from the masses on social media.

Progress? 😂

Scene from the movie gladiator with a gladiator yelling “are you not entertained?”

@andresmh personally I'd pay to see flatlining each other...

Is #stickdrift on games controllers a relatively recent thing? I don’t recall ever having the issue on my ps1, ps2 or xbox360. The Switch and PS5 both suffer. What changed in joystick hardware to make it so flakey?

kkarhan,
@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

@andy_warb Cheaper & lower-quality Joysticks.

Never had #JoystickDrift on a #NeoGeo #MVS nor #Xbox360 controllers.

@derSammler yeah, OFC are assumed to have deep pockets and be able as well as willing to pay 5 digits for some games.

Someone literally offered a complete collection for €15k starting / €30k buy now some years ago, and if I had like 6-7 digits spare, I would've considered buying and starting some / with these...

Oh man, I was a computer operator in the Marines (early 90s), and the wheels/cranks on those stacks are very familiar when looking for numbered tapes. Crazy!

TIL, the German uses for paycheck generation. PDFs are generated through PDFlib by the Munich based company of the same name:

PDF producer: PDFlib+PDI 9.0.4-m (zSeries z/OS)

The API ref is promising some fun:
"For use with C, C++, Cobol, COM, Java, .NET, Objective-C, Perl, PHP, Python, REALbasic/Xojo, RPG, Ruby"
(https://www.pdflib.com/fileadmin/pdflib/pdf/manuals/PDFlib-9.0.4-API-reference.pdf)

As well as:
"PDFlib is available on a variety of platforms, including Unix,
Windows, OS X, and EBCDIC-based systems such as IBM i5/iSeries and zSeries."
(https://www.pdflib.com/fileadmin/pdflib/pdf/manuals/PDFlib-9.0.4-tutorial.pdf)

And since IBM does everything in , this, of course is also supported:

"stringformat ebcdicutf8: All strings and option lists are expected in EBCDIC-UTF-8 format with or without BOM."

And although I do hope that Datev uses Unix System Services instead of plain on z/OS, this does give me the creeps:

"MVS versions of PDFlib GmbH products are not thread-safe"
(https://www.pdflib.com/fileadmin/pdflib/System_Requirements/PDFlib-9.0.4-system-requirements.txt)

Truly curséd. But PDFlib on zSeries doesn't support networking ... unfortunately?
