Her en der las ik in kranten dat mensen dit kabinet maximaal 1 1/2 of 2 jaar de tijd geven voor het uit elkaar dondert. Hier onderaan een stukje tekst uit een commentaar van een lezer dat ik wel de moeite waard vond en waarvan ik vrees dat het zo gaat lopen. Ik ben niet blij met Wilders maar hij is een sluwe vos met een enorm scherpe tong. Ik heb nog geen journalist of politicus gezien die het lukt om daar heel duidelijk iets tegen in te brengen.
Wilders lacht in zijn vuistje en wacht tot de volgende verkiezingen, wanneer hij VVD, NSC en BBB leegplukt, en als PVV eenmanspartij een autoritaire meerderheidsregering gaat vormen. Want dat is het doel van Wilders. Hij kijkt verder en is strategisch beter dan Yeşilgöz, Omtzigt en van der Plas bij elkaar. Intussen heeft hij veel in de koelkast om dan te gebruiken. Zijn achterban is nu al enthousiast…Nederland, EU en Navo worden hiervan het slachtoffer

So I started a mild side quest on Andrew Gelmans blog, where they are discussing Trump and politicians and started discussing deficit spending and such. oh, wow, there really was such a thread, only 2 years ago, but, hilariously, I argued against the idea, although most of my objections had to do with things other than eusociality.

So, Richard McManus asked me about how ActivityPub supports cross-server usage. As an example use case, let’s say a user with the account eric@social.example wants to comment on a photo by dionne@photos.example. In this scenario, Eric would go to the page https://photos.example/users/dionne/photos/1 and enter a comment. How would that work? I can talk about how it would work using the ActivityPub API. But I’m going to have to explain a lot about the API first!
ActivityPub’s API is how client applications interact with the data on a user’s main account server. It lets the user read data on the same or other servers, and it lets them create activities and other kinds of objects on that server that get shared (under the user’s control) with the rest of the world.

Let’s consider an ActivityPub enabled photo-editing tool that lets you change lighting, add cartoon characters, change your appearance, or other modifications that are often seen in “filters” on Instagram or Snap:

The other thing that’s neat is that because ActivityPub is very extensible, you can have all kinds of cool apps interacting with your ActivityPub account. Games, dating, ecommerce, all kinds of stuff.
Now, what does all this have to do with cross-server interactions? Here’s the idea: when a user from social.example is browsing the web site for photos.example and wants to interact with the people or the photos, they log in and treat that remote server as if it was an ActivityPub client. Then, the ActivityPub server reports the activities back to the remote server using the ActivityPub federation protocol.

It makes your own ActivityPub server your real home on the Web, where all your activities go through. It’s still in development and unfolding in the ActivityPub world — not everyone supports the ActivityPub API fully, so it’s hard to see these benefits today.

It looks like they've found protonium in the decay of a heavy particle! 🎉
Protonium is made of a proton and an antiproton orbiting each other. It lasts a very short time before they annihilate each other.
It's a bit like a hydrogen atom where the electron has been replaced with an antiproton! But unlike a hydrogen atom, which is held together by the electric force, protonium is mainly held together by the strong nuclear force. It's also much smaller than a hydrogen atom.
There are various ways to make protonium. One is to make a bunch of antiprotons and mix them with protons. This was done accidentally in 2002 during the first experiment that created antihydrogen. They only realized this upon carefully analyzing the data 4 years later.
This time, people were studying the decay of the J/psi particle. The J/psi is made of a heavy quark and its antiparticle. It's 3.3 times as heavy as a proton, so it's theoretically able to decay into protonium. And careful study showed that yes, it does this sometimes!
The new paper on this has over 550 authors, so I won't list them all. It also has a rather dry title - not "We found protonium!"
The idea here is that sometimes the J/ψ particle decays into a gamma ray and 3 pion-antipion pairs. When they examined this decay, they found evidence that an intermediate step involved a particle of mass 1880 MeV/c², a bit more than an already known intermediate of mass 1840 MeV/c².
This new particle is a bit lighter than twice the mass of a proton, 938 MeV/c². So, there's a good chance that it's protonium!
