Konin town mayor election candidate Piotr Korytkowski made lobbying for a power plant in the town one of his main postulates. He won the first round, there will be a second one.

Nuclear power enjoys significant support in Poland which is now mostly coal-based, as it offers a realistic scenario to transition to a stable, low-carbon source with little dependency on foreign supply chains.

Probably they are brainwashed or heavily paid by the extremely profitable Nuclear Industry 🤷🏻‍♀️ Because nothing has changed yet

The atoms ⚛️ and their extremely dangerous characteristics are still the same 🤷🏻‍♀️ So there is no reason to tell now at once that Nuclear energy and NuclearWaste is now at once safe 🤦🏻‍♀️

Not only has used fuel been stored safely for decades, it can be reprocessed into fuel for the future.

Used fuel safely stored could potentially power us for centuries, via fast breeder reactors. No more mining needed, solving the waste problem at the same time.

@auscandoc the new push by the petro-provinces into is a tactic.

The folks behind it know full well that it takes at least a decade of effort (regulatory and otherwise) before a new plant can be brought online. This won’t stop them from shovelling wheelbarrow-loads of taxpayer cash into the furnace to make it appear that they’re taking action. Meanwhile the grifters pedalling will be laughing all the way to their offshore bank accounts.

A new report from the Government Accountability Office found that the NRC uses historical data — rather than climate projections — to identify and assess risk in initial licensing processes and during safety reviews for plants. That may underestimate how droughts, floods, wildfires and extreme weather could affect nuclear power plant operations and safety, the GAO warned.
