Out in the middle of nowhere is actually somewhere: it's a landscape surrounded by space, and within that space one can walk around outside in one's bathrobe -- or not even that if you please -- and not be seen by the neighbors.
You don't hear their TV or music. No loud cars, or sirens. No shouting, flashing lights, LED advertisements in your face.

Unannounced inspection finds serious safety concerns at federal prison in Sheridan
The Oregonian / OregonLive
The list of things wrong is absolutely horrifying. Prison is where society puts bodies to suffer and die. This is not justice. This is callous cruelty.
We share our secrets and our thoughts with those who hold them gently in their hands and securely in their hearts.
These people are few. Even social butterflies who boast of being "people persons" with lots and lots of friends would be wise to watch with whom they share their innermost introspections.
Burton is an 85-pound, 3-year-old long-haired German Shepherd. Across his furry black and brown back, he wears a harness that reads, “Please pet,” and at his ceremony, many in attendance did just that.
Dropping off my ballot for today's primary election in #Oregon I encourage you and all your friends who live in the first #VoteByMail state (est. 1999) to vote! It's so easy and convenient!🗳🇺🇲✅

Mark Knopfler has a song on his new album called Tunnel 13 which is an ode to a train robbery attempt in Oregon in 1923 in which 4 innocent railway workers were killed. #oregon#OregonHistory
Calling all registered voters in #Oregon tomorrow, Tuesday May 21st, is the Primary Election. It doesn't take much effort to complete and drop off your ballot or have it in the mail before 8:00.🗳🇺🇲✅
Oh, she knew perfectly well that she was supposed to be serious, concerned, keeping up on the news of the day, fearful of the Next Big Thing, savvy and cool, yet at the same time perturbed and troubled over . . . everything.
Tomorrow is election day for Oregonians. Ballots must be taken to a drop box or postmarked by 8 PM Tuesday, May 21.
All registered voters should have received voters' pamphlets and ballots automatically (I love our vote by mail system ❤️) but here's your reminder in case you stashed them somewhere and forgot.
Local elections can have a big impact!
I spent the morning doing my research and voting at home 😁
📣 #OREGON can be dangerously misleading. On the surface it seems blue but much of the state is radically red. Help ensure Democrats hold onto the centerpiece of the West Coast; donate today! #Blue24
Finished my ballot to drop off tomorrow (VOTE BY MAIL IS THE BEST, at least as long as the US refuses to make voting easier across the board). My primary ballot is Democrat, but the packet they send includes all candidates. A number of Republican state lawmakers were disqualified from running again after walking out of too many sessions last year. It is truly disquieting how many of them are running for other (even higher) offices. November scares me for so many reasons.
I tramp around Mount St. Helens just North of #Portland in Wa, its sort of untouched and completely changed slopes. I’ve heard how gorgeous it was prior but this OPB report gives glimpses.

in my county we have a moderate running against a J6 dingbat county councilman -- you might have a similar opportunity to improve your community, and given current voter turnout, you could have a disproportionate impact
this weekend is a great time to get that vote in the mail
I’m hanging out at the famous Blue Pool this morning eating lunch and drying out my tent. It rained a bit while I slept but was only misting by the time I was packing up. I’ve already covered a large portion of the trail last night and this morning. This trail is a gem, I love it out here. I believe the waterfall corridor is next. Just a quick post, more photos to come.
I tagged the end of the trail this morning. Incredible trail. No one told me I would be hiking on a lava bed at the edge of a beautiful lake. I’m currently in the snow attempting a summit of Sand Mountain to see the views.
I received word via satellite that Sand Mountain has great views of the surrounding volcanos. Decided to take a last minute 15-mile side trip. First time I’ve climbed a snowy mountain but it wasn’t too hard with micro spikes. Snow was still frozen from overnight. I felt like I was on the top of the world, no one around for miles. It’s amazing we can do this.
