around the Courthouse (historical) were paved as part of a project. But they aren't the only ones around town. You can see the inscription on sidwalks on Bolivar St and Sycamore St and probably other places around central . https://livingnewdeal.org/sites/wpa-sidewalks-denton-tx/

What happens when a small Appalachian town builds a lattice of second-story, outdoor sidewalks so pedestrians don't have to compete with cars for street space?

I visited Morristown, TN to find out.

Really not sure what is going on with this weird pipe construction. It is clear, however, that safety is a low priority here.

Four-lane streets around here, but pipes go under street and over .

That section of Admiral Pl isn't well-lit. The #sidewalks are probably overgrown with sticker plants. The #bicyclist probably couldn't afford to get lights for their #bicycle.

Besides, remembering that one time I did everything right and wasn't even in the #street and still almost got killed.

Also, #TulsaWorld, a #DRIVER killed the ped, not a "truck". Why do all news orgs do this?

Polish women pave all the sidewalks in their village, as council failed to do it

In Romaszki, a tiny village of 400 people in eastern #Poland, residents took matters into their own hands.

The local female residents learned the skill of laying road bricks when they realised that the authorities were unable do the job

Some I've come across recently, that I wanted to highlight on . Gardens like this provide food for and make more tranquil. Obviously, it needs to be done the right way (without bee-harming pesticides, with good soil and untreated seeds), but imagine if we had these in the space between and instead of ?

We Need a Department of Sidewalks

"Local departments of sidewalks would shift power and financial costs away from adjacent property owners, restoring efficient, equitable, and accountable maintenance. And they would consolidate all the functions currently scattered across agencies, creating more coherent and navigable regulation."

Am I the only one who despises asphalt ? This failing stretch of asphalt sidewalk is being replaced with new asphalt. There’s still no curb cut at the crosswalk. And it’s brick on one end and concrete on the other…

@CR8R @art Drop the BASS! 😂 Yes I'm corny, but this base.. isn't corny at all. Using thin cork and a solid blank wooden frame. We're going to transform these into a small part of town. Using concrete and road paints and paints, I've created a semi textured diorama base that our Walther HO scale buildings will sit on.

There is not a of funds for in the US. We spend tens of billions every year on construction and maintenance. That's a policy choice.

We could choose instead to pay for other things, like robust & comprehensive supports for and .

Don't let anyone tell you there's not enough $. We have gobs of $. We just spend it to subsidize the least economically rational form of transportation.

Can we afford great without ? Yep.
Can we afford safe to every school? Yep.
Can we afford wide, along every ? Yep.
Can we afford to buy every household an ? Yep.

But instead we choose to subsidize , and treat everything else as an expensive, frivolous amenity.
