Does anyone know of any good #tabletop RPGs that dip into #slasher
#horror themes and aesthetics? I want to find a game to DM for my group.

Just watching #THANKSGIVING 🎥🍿

It's a solid, relatively smart #slasher.
It's definitely a #HORROR #movie w lots of gore. Roth's stuff always seems +5 pts too mean spirited for me. Maybe it's that his gore is so realistic, or that I don't find his movies joyfully deranged so much as misanthropic.

While I appreciate that it got made, & ALSO how many things from the OG #Grindhouse trailer got incorporated in some way, I still feel like the 2007 faux trailer is the superior movie, lol.

Continuing with my new buys (from '23), I just finished reading by .
Back in October I read the synopsis and sample chapters and knew I would like it.
I was right.
A precise blend of trivia and callbacks and a story that mostly moves at a breakneck pace, with impecable prose.
The main idea seems inspired by Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994), but doing much more than what could be done in a 2 hour film.
Recommended.

Ranting to the group chat about how Black Christmas is the first true slasher (sorry to Psycho and Peeping Tom and giallo) as we know the term today, instead of ya know actually watching it and allowing myself a good time.

Remember during the last RTD era when he introduced Christmas specials? Well that, but Halloween specials, and instead of saving Santa or some bollocks the Doctor has to face down a classic slasher killer from the 70s or 80s 🔪

THE CONFERENCE

Efficient if unspectacular workplace a la Severance or Mayhem, but in Swedish.
It doesn't take long before the killing begins as what was supposed to be a groundbreaking for a shopping mall/team building weekend turns into a race for survival as someone(s) decides this conference could use some dead bodies to spice things up.
Pretty straightforward with characters you don't care about whether they live or die and a killer with some really cumbersome headgear.
Most of the kills are adequate and there aren't too many dead spots to choke the runtime.
If you have a fetish for dead Swedes then this is right up your alley, or GRAND as they say in Sweden.
This is a Swedish film? How is there not a Skarsgard?

In about an hour, after we get the toddler to bed, my wife and I will be watching the original . One of many horror movies I missed in my youth, and it feels really appropriate given the date and month.

Pearl (2022)

It’s like watching Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz going through a psychotic breakdown.

Mia Goth is fearless and goes absolutely bonkers. My favourite performance from anyone last year.

Parasite (2019)

It starts out as a comedy/satire, then turns into a full-blown horror film in the last act. Love it.

Hello friends and friends-to-be. For my first post I just wanted to say Hi! I’m a small-town Canadian movie fan, with a particular affinity for Australian and Irish movies. I enjoy many genres but horror is my first love!

Forty years after a deranged kid hacks up his mother after getting caught with naked lady puzzle, someone at the university is killing students with a chainsaw. And leaving with one or two body parts as trophies. To the police, it’s clear it’s a faculty member. The bodies really start to stack up as the police crank up the investigation. The undercover cop that joins the faculty gets the killer’s attention because of her shoe size. This is Pieces.

I'm not one for "New Year's resolutions", but I am one for overly ambitious projects.

For 2023, Project365 is "One New Game Per Day".

Given that I have 634 unplayed games in my Steam account and {mumble} unredeemed bundle Steam keys, there's a reason my unplayed collection is tagged "Pile of Shame".

I'll pin this to my profile, and give a brief summary here each day (or x, if I miss x days due to work or stuff).

I'll play 15-30 minutes of (at least) one new game I've never played before (or played less than 15 minutes of). I'll give every game at least 15 minutes, even if I hate every minute of it.

I'm also open to suggestions; if you reply to this thread with a game, I'll schedule it, or tell you what I thought of it.

One of the things that's come up is that I have a bunch of games that I've played once, and not touched again.

Unplayed games:
Trying a game again:
Going live on Twitch:

I'll hashtag these with so you can mute it if you're not interested.

December 10, 2023 - Day 343 - NewPlay Bonus Review
Total NewPlays: 364

Game: Mordhau

Platform: Epic Game Store
Release Date: Apr 29, 2019
Installation Date: Dec 9, 2023
Unplayed: 1d
Playtime: 19m

Mordhau is a first-person or third-person medieval combat simulator/slasher.

I picked it out of my unused Steam keys list last night, then realising I already owned it on EGS, decided to install it there.

I thought, for some reason, it was a Soulslike.

It is not. It like a twin to Chivalry II, right down to the annoying knight doing the tutorial.

Multiplayer game, enter tutorial, use the mouse to try and do a bunch of different sword moves and parries.

Unlike Chivalry II, you also get the option of training with a bow and arrow (which was OK), and jumping on a horse and using a lance.

Somehow, as frustrating as Chivalry II was, this was more frustrating. I could not, for the life of me, coordinate the horse and the lance, and after spending half of my playtime trying to hit the second of four targets with the lance, my frustration exceeded my patience, and I quit the game, and recovered 36GB of SSD space.

For someone who's into multiplayer swordfighting, this game might be right up your alley, which is why I'm throwing the Steam key into my giveaway list.

Like Chivalry II before it, Mordhau is a big old:
