Kitten¹ now keeps two JSDB² databases per project: an internal one ('kitten._db) that holds data Kitten manages (sessions, uploads, etc.) and the default one (kitten.db`) that holds your own tables.

You’ll mostly only care about the latter.

I also took the opportunity to create a Database App Module example and document it in the readme:

    USian friends---what's happening at WVU is worth paying attention to. It's not clear if it's possible to prevent the program closures at this point, but at a minimum, we should bear witness.

    "I watched as new buildings sprang up year after year, creating an ominous undertone on campus as more and more students disappeared."

    "In the Nation, Lisa M. Corrigan describes what’s happening at WVU as “a trial balloon for doing this elsewhere.”"

    EMR,
    @EMR@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @emilymbender A bit buried, but worth quoting at length regarding the president proposing the cuts:

    > His expense report at OSU revealed the university spent $7.7 million on Gee’s expenses, almost equaling his $8.6 million salary. When he was president at Brown, the university spent $3 million renovating his home. Under his supervision as chancellor at Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt spent $6 million renovating the mansion where Gee lived; Gee also incurred a $700,000 tab for hosting social events.

    This poor socket… Just because there were blown caps on this Dell Optiplex GX620 board someone decided to screw it… well, rather, screwdriver it. 😞

    Btw, a little piece of paper makes it much easier to see individual rows of pins on these LGA sockets and hope to bend them back in shape…

    I think the Internet Archive has about a year or less before being closed down. They face multiple lawsuits demanding better collection management - but they have little or no curation at all.

    Just go look for yourself: Taylor Swift albums jumbled up with console games, copied blu rays and random video with no tags - a real museum has direction, purpose and the IA needs to staff up and stop being a huge dumpster of random shit. Or the inevitable will happen.

    EMR,
    @EMR@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @lardmotel I really wish they hadn't released all those books. Did anyone ask them to do that?

    EMR,
    @EMR@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @tomw @lardmotel the national emergency library was a serious alteration of the deal libraries have with publishers.

    IA hosts a lot of media that cannot be found elsewhere, that would be lost if the archive wasn't around. Not to mention the accountability they bring by backing up words written online. They risked those purposes to host media that could be had via other channels. I appreciate the impulse to cut red tape at the outset of the pandemic, but it was an irresponsible move.

    EMR,
    @EMR@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @tomw @lardmotel I think it's a bigger question than tactics, I think it's strategic. That move didn't contribute to IA's mission, and indeed may cost IA dearly.

    With no hyperbole at all, I didn't even know the OSI still existed. I know the FSF was still rattling around, but only because their Main Guy was so terrible he'd make the news now and then (and we finally had to co-sign a formal statement saying that their main guy is terrible enough that the world should have nothing to do with him, that I'm proud to have drafted) but the OSI just... never came up in conversation, or as someone to talk to or consult or ... anything. Not in a decade.

    Well I haven’t had much luck with the past two servers I have signed up on. They both have been overloaded, and rightly so, due to all this crap happening with Reddit.

    I think I have finally found a good home with a server that can be used. LOL. I am now on Lemmy.world. https://lemmy.world/u/kylewritescode

    AU/X was a version of Unix written in the late 1980s by Apple that ran on just a few specific Macs, including the SE/30. It was developed in an effort to gain a foothold in the world of institutional UNIX buyers and also US Federal Government-funded hardware purchasing, which required POSIX compliance. System 7 ran in its entirety as a Unix process launched after boot. It's kind of a dead-end evolutionary cousin to OS/X.

    EMR,
    @EMR@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @kjhealy I wonder why they didn't evolve that into Copeland instead of... whatever they actually did.
