There was a unanimous decision to let people into the Þórkátlustað district only (less than twenty homes).

The first animals are rescued from the Þórkátlustað district. People have only 5 minutes to pick up belongings and pets/animals.
According to Red Cross Iceland, a animal rescue operation is underway to bring the horses from the riding area north of Austurver to safety.
