Took these photos back in April and just getting around to editing them. I came across this crab apples tree along a main avenue. I couldn't get a good angle for a wider shot but it was smothered in blooms. The vertical branches looked like enormous lamb's legs😮 . It was a pretty incredible sight.

This flowering bush is along a route to a friend's house. It's populated by a small flock of house sparrows pretty much yr round & I catch a lot of sparrow pics there. Don't know that I've seen it in bloom before but appears to be a type of spiraea.

One of those flowering shrubs that has tiny little white flowers that look lovely but are far more delicate & intricate when you take a closer look.

Definitely one of my favorite photos from last year so I thought I'd re-post.

To me it kinda feels like the Eurasian tree sparrow is inviting you to explore the interior of the hornet's nest 👀.

Not sure its the same pair but a pair built their nest in this exact same location last yr. Its on some rock fill along the Iowa River & right next to the Iowa River Trail in Coralville, Iowa. Was fortunate to get a good view of the nest when she chose to stand up & turn her eggs as well as scrounge the surrounding rocks for something to eat. Unfortunately, in the city it is not usual to see wildlife incorporate human detritus in their nests 🙁.

Been so busy w/ my garden that I haven't had much time to take pics. When I'm that busy I often go back through my catalog & re-edit old pics or edit old pics I never used.

This pic is from 2023. That year there were hundreds of bald eagles along my stretch of the Iowa River. I never edited this photo because the angle was "strange" (I was nearly directly below) & I had tons of eagle photos to choose from.

Went out to feed the birds this a.m. & saw something "mounted" to a back porch support beam. Closer inspection revealed it was a very large . My ID app suggests Polyphemus moth (Antheraea polyphemus) with an average wingspan of 6". It was just chilling during the a.m. storms. I hoped it would open up but it just stayed motionless. It was quite dark so the pics aren't the best. Antennae are very cool!

The moth has large, tear-drop shaped, brownw antennae and a large body and legs covered by long brown hairs. Its wings are patterned and scalloped with grey and brown and it has a large brown "eye" on its outer wing that is surrounded by a narrow circle of light tan.
