Just to be explicitly clear.

After Israel condemned the ICC for accusing them of deliberately targeting civilians, Israel forced Palestinians into a safe zone where they wouldn't be bombed—then Israel bombed & killed 32 children in that safe zone.

They burned Palestinians alive. On purpose.

ICC: Prosecute these war crimes.

A statement from an emergency worker in Rafah:
2/2
"Most of the bodies were charred and burned, while the injured people lost limbs and suffered other injuries due to the use of internationally prohibited weapons that caused the massive fire which erupted. We pulled out approx 50 people and injured people from the area and transported them to field hospitals after official hospitals were forced to evacuate in an attempt to destroy the health system in the Rafah area”

@Mary625 @MikeImBack @appassionato @palestine The strangest this is that this group relie on progressive minded people to hold onto their position, but decided to support the pro-genocide lobby.

ZillaMon,
@ZillaMon@mastodon.social avatar

@Mary625 @MikeImBack @appassionato @palestine Today I voted in my national, regional and provincial elections. I made sure not to vote for those supporting or excusing this genocide. It might not be much, but that was my single issue and I made it count. Also, the politicians excusing this genocide are about to loses areas they control. Their stance is going to cost them a lot. Good

ZillaMon,
@ZillaMon@mastodon.social avatar

@Mary625 @MikeImBack @appassionato @palestine I think they tried to appease their funders, and let's not forget they take their voters for mugs. They also tried to pull the, "but the other guys are worse card". They are now polling at levels that will see them lose control of areas they currently govern. one hopes that they have the ability to realise that they scored an own goal

ZillaMon,
@ZillaMon@mastodon.social avatar

@Mary625 @MikeImBack @appassionato @palestine I think that they needed to ĺose this election, as they failed to show compassion, took their constituents for granted, and tried to scare people into voting for them. It hopefully won't work

ZillaMon,

@MikeImBack @Mary625 @appassionato @palestine Given how the US system is structured another Tramp will come. For enduring democracy there, they need to restructure their political, economic and judicial institutions.

ZillaMon,
@ZillaMon@mastodon.social avatar

@Mary625 @MikeImBack @appassionato @palestine Fortunately they were the provincial and regional government, the national government is on the other side of this issue. This provincial cabal are expected to lose their majorities because of their endorsement of the genocide

"International Court of Justice orders are legally binding.

"However, the court’s ruling will now be discussed at the UN Security Council, where states can decide to take united action to enforce the court’s rulings.

"However, the US has a veto, which it has historically used to shield Israel from the consequences of violating international law."

If the US saw lack of ICC jurisdiction as a valid defense that exempts Israel from ICC prosecution, then US would not have welcomed ICC arrest warrants for Putin—who also rejects ICC jurisdiction. But instead the US happily welcomed ICC warrants against Putin, and stands by those warrants to this day.

International rules based order mandates consistency in law and the application of law—for opponents & allies alike. That's how justice is supposed to work.

ZillaMon,
@ZillaMon@mastodon.social avatar

@QasimRashid The US and UK are happy to say, "Rule of law and international laws for thee, but not me", remember the UK looted the GS and still refuses to repatriate the loot, plus they stole the Chagos island and refuses to hand the island back despite and ICJ ruling.

ZillaMon,
@ZillaMon@mastodon.social avatar

@QasimRashid The US is gradually losing its grip on the international order, its credibility and influence is on the wane, not because it's adversaries are doing more to counter US influence, but because the US has shown how hypocritical its policies and how brazen its self interest is.

Nothing else matters.

Almost 80% of IPCC climate scientists believe we're heading for 2.5ºC of warming this century; 50% say 3ºC.

These are objectively disastrous numbers.

Over 70% say that lack of political will is to blame; 60% also blame vested corporate interests.

I'd add the demagogues, populists, & their cronies, weaponising denialism for their own short-term selfish gains.

History will judge our generation very harshly.

@markmccaughrean if the 2.5⁰C or 3⁰C temperatures are realized then there will be no humans to study the historical record. That said you are quite right, humanity will leave behind a geological and fossil record that will not be kind when and if some sentient species does examine the record.
