I suspect part of the reason took off in Paris but have spawned conspiracy theories in the UK is that invested in the benefits alongside the traffic calming measures, whereas UK councils had no budget to invest in the positives and also no budget for proper public consolations explaining what was going to happen so people felt it had just been dropped on them without warning.

They also had ‘rival’ agencies having to coordinate implementation. Road signs meant to filter off cars arrived weeks after cycle lanes and road partitions appeared.
It was messy, but 100% effective, once it bedded in.
Made a fantastic difference to our local streets and cycling.

When I was studying I learned about the theory of semantic memory - how people will remember the meaning of something better than raw facts.

This is certainly true for me. I can remember long strings of numbers if I have time to give them a context. And this must be what mnemonics and memory palaces do: give data a semantic structure and context to help us remember it.

One of the worst things since lockdown happened is that couriers now think it’s acceptable to leave packages on a doorstep and consider that “delivered”.

I say “a doorstep” as my wife just had a notification to say a package has been delivered. It’s nowhere to be seen.

Unless you’ve handed it to me directly as I’ve opened the door, I do not consider it delivered!

Edit: I don’t blame the drivers themselves. It’s the companies who dictate how drivers are supposed to perform their duties.
