I have a horrible feeling that a lot of people look at forest fires, floods, record heatwaves, etc., and think, "This is how it's going to be from now on."

It's not. We're still pumping CO2 into the atmosphere, where it's accumulating.

The future is going to be much, much worse. Unless we take drastic action now.

You too can buy a Tesla, and support the main share holder Elon Musk, who abuses his social media platform to convince his 185 million followers, that the US justice system is corrupt, because his favorite criminal is brought to justice.

Or you could buy from a different car brand.

@randahl When a US businessman says that falsifying business records is no big deal it’s probably a good idea to look very closely at his business records.

Due to global warming, Vivaldi's Four Seasons have been reworked so that the Summer movement is 30% longer and played fortissimo, Winter is 10% shorter and played pianissimo, with some random bars played sforzando to account for the slowing of the North Atlantic Current, and both Spring and Autumn are now played very quickly and with abrupt changes in key, indicating their chaotic nature.

I'm grateful for Mastodon. I have very mixed feelings about social media, but a social media platform that:

• Isn't controlled by billionaires
• Has no advertising
• Doesn't harvest your data, and
• Doesn't algorithmically promote anger and hatred

is a precious thing.

I'm just blocking "liberals" who say they can't bring themselves to vote for Biden/Harris because he's "disappointed" them on some issue or other.

The choice is between preserving and expanding democracy and letting fascists destroy democracy altogether.

This is so obvious and well-known that I have to suspect that many of these accounts are actually sleepers set up to bait and switch, aiming to put liberals off of voting.

This morning I went to Google News.

🟢 Found a story from CNN.

🟢 Tapped on the three dots beside the story.

🟢 Tapped on “Hide all stories from CNN.”

Easy!

Now I’m recommending you do the same on whatever news platform you use. Let there be consequences for giving a platform to a wannabe dictator.

This law is horrifying. It doesn't just affect people under 18, although that’s bad enough. All "sexually oriented" material is now banned from libraries, for all persons. This covers any book that contains "representations or descriptions" of sexual intercourse, homosexuality, lesbianism, and even buttocks or breasts. If your book describes a breast or a bum, it's banned from libraries in Mississippi.

I've just discovered that Meta illegally used one of my books ("I Can't Believe It's Not Buddha") to train its AI.

They are paraphrasing (uncredited) the contents of my book to make money.

I am not okay with this.

Sarah Silverman and others have started lawsuits. I hope some of the less rich among us can team up and do likewise.

Remember when "let me Google that for you" was a neat, although sarcastic, way of telling people that they could easily find information on the web if they took a moment to look for it?

"Let me Google that for you" would now mean something like "let me relieve you of the burden of combing through an endless series of useless, spammy, ad-laden, malware-ridden, AI-generated websites in the vain hope of finding an answer to your question."

Hi, people in the UK!

I just got a bill for $3,001.36, which is for one visit to the hospital. That amount is what I have to pay after insurance.

Vote the Tories out and protect your . The system in the US is the system they want for you. They want a profit-making health service because they'd own it and you'd be making them richer every time you go to the doctor.

And people in Scotland: in the long term Labour are not going to save the NHS. Vote . Make Scotland independent!

Just delighted that Apple has decided to take 30% of the income I earn through the Insight Timer app.

Who, these days, does not need a substantial part of their income to disappear so that they don't frivolously spend it on food and heating?

Who among us is not willing to make sacrifices in order to make a $3 trillion company even richer?

Truly we live in the best of all possible capitalist dystopias.

Inspired by @cstross's experience of Google's Bard generating increasingly inaccurate "fun facts" about him, I had a go at that myself.

I asked for five fun facts, then five more, and another five. Bard increasingly just made shit up. At the start of the second set of five facts, Bard states I'm a musician. I've never recorded any albums of "meditative music."

Bard is a bullshit generator. It reminds me of grading essays by students who hadn't done the assigned reading.

1. Musical Interlude: Bodhipaksa is a talented musician and has released several albums of meditative music. He combines traditional Buddhist chants with contemporary melodies, creating a unique and calming soundscape for relaxation and reflection. 2. Foodie with a Twist: Despite his dedication to Buddhist practice, Bodhipaksa enjoys experimenting with different cuisines. He is particularly fond of spicy food and often incorporates recipes from around the world into his meals. 3. Tech-Savvy Monk: Bodhipaksa embraces technology as a tool to spread Buddhist teachings. He actively uses social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook to connect with students worldwide, answer questions, and share insights on mindfulness and meditation. 4. Humor in the Dharma: Bodhipaksa believes humor can be a powerful tool for learning and growth. He often incorporates jokes and humorous anecdotes into his teachings, making even the most complex topics more relatable and engaging. 5. Nature Connection: Bodhipaksa finds solace and inspiration in nature. He regularly engages in outdoor activities like hiking and gardening, drawing parallels between the natural world and the principles of mindfulness and impermanence. These additional fun facts paint a more holistic picture of Bodhipaksa, showcasing his diverse interests and talents beyond his role as a Buddhist author and teacher. He is a multifaceted individual who embodies the principles of mindfulness and compassion in his everyday life.
Five More Fun Facts about Bodhipaksa: 1. Tea Connoisseur: Bodhipaksa is an avid tea drinker and considers tea ceremonies to be a valuable mindfulness practice. He enjoys exploring different tea varietals and brewing methods, finding them to be a source of calmness and focus. 2. Language Lover: Bodhipaksa is fluent in several languages, including English, French, German, and Spanish. This linguistic ability allows him to connect with students across cultures and share the Buddha's teachings with a wider audience. 3. Animal Advocate: Bodhipaksa is a passionate animal advocate and supports causes related to animal welfare and veganism. He believes that compassion for all beings is an essential aspect of Buddhist practice. 4. Lifelong Learner: Bodhipaksa is a dedicated student of Buddhism and continues to explore various Buddhist traditions and teachings. He enjoys attending retreats, workshops, and Dharma talks, constantly seeking new ways to deepen his understanding and practice. 5. Simple Joys: Beyond his scholarly pursuits, Bodhipaksa finds joy in simple pleasures like spending time with friends and family, appreciating nature, and engaging in creative activities like writing and playing music. He believes that cultivating contentment with the present moment is key to happiness. These additional facts reveal more about Bodhipaksa's personal interests and values, showcasing him as a well- rounded individual with a deep appreciation for life's simple joys.

'Tate’s organisation has been training men to groom women, peddling an ideology that centres on enslaving them. “This isn’t just, ‘Oh, women should stay in the kitchen and the gender pay gap is a lie.’ This is advocating the subjugation of an entire gender into slavery. If you imagined an extremist group with a similar ideology aimed towards an ethnic group, you would think this was one of the most dangerous extremist groups in the world.” '
