Well now I’m watching the Giants/Cowboys. I wouldn’t normally care who the heck wins until it actually matters later in the season. But I suppose since I’m dating a Giants fan and he just rooted for my Eagles…. I will begrudgingly half heartedly kind of sort of root for the Giants.

@dancinyogi OMG - have either of you seriously evaluated the physical risks?! 🤣

P.S. I'm in a foul mood after GB beat down my Bears. 🤬

I've always been fascinated by miniatures. But, only WORKING miniatures.

From tiny doll-house kitchens with real running water and a gas stoves you could light, to a working tiny macintosh computer ... small things that work are a delight.

While reading about MONIAC the hydraulic model of the UK economy the reason for this fascination became more clear.

Working miniature are a kind of abstraction. They are literally models

Do you have a favorite miniature?

chessert,
@chessert@mastodon.online avatar

@futurebird I've been collecting antique toy trains since 2007 (1900-1942). Small things that work (clockwork & electric)! 😀

Good morning, all the early risers.

Rain moving in, so I'll likely work out at home instead of running. Visiting Dad later, and then I have a couple of virtual clients before I settle in to watch the Eagles/Patriots. 🏈

Hope you have some nice plans for Sunday?

    So in my quest to actually be able to watch the games via streaming, I see that Marquee Sports now offers a streaming subscription!

    I click over to their site to check it out… $20/month?!?!? For one channel that doesn’t have anything of value other than the baseball games?

    By comparison, MLB.tv is $20/mo (when paid yearly) for access to ALL games and ALL radio broadcasts except of course for the teams that are regionally blacked out. Good grief.

    chessert,
    @chessert@mastodon.online avatar

    @cjhubbs Yeah Chris, $20/mo. is just silly, IMHO. I get MLB.tv with a military discount, so I'm probably close to $20/mo. already there - but get all of MLB. I live in Pennsylvania, so the blackout restrictions don't affect me much here, but I have VPN too.

    Wish the NFL would adopt MLB's season pricing for streaming. $400+ is ridiculous. Had NFL+ Premium for a few seasons. Then my Roku would decide my paid subscription wasn't valid mid-season - 2 seasons in a row. I'm done. 😡

    Reminiscing with Mark about the 70s.

    Kickball, hula hoops, rollerskating, badminton, running through the sprinkler, riding bikes. These were things I played when I was growing up. How about you?

    As A Gen-Xer, who could ever forget clackers? (No, that's not me in the pic). Yeah, they were eventually banned (boo), but I'll never forget going out to the playground and hearing the 'clack, clack, clack' from 30 kids and their clackers.

    How to follow people on Mastodon (at least, how I do it).

    1. Someone likes/replies to my toot, makes a provocative reply to someone I follow, or even follows me.

    2. I click on the link to their profile, and examine:
      a. Their previous toots, to determine the general direction of their politics, creativity, etc. (are we thought-compatible?).
      b. How often they toot/boost content, vs. how important to me that content actually is.

    1/3

    chessert,
    @chessert@mastodon.online avatar
    1. Using 2.a. and 2.b. I make a completely subjective determination of how willing I am to see all of their toots/boosts in my Home feed.

    If I can't make a good determination, I won't follow... for now. That's not permanent: if I find myself enjoying their toots later (for any reason), I will follow them.

    If someone I follow starts tooting/boosting too much (like 10+ toots on the same subject daily), I'll reluctantly stop following them.

    2/3

    chessert,
    @chessert@mastodon.online avatar

    @Hey_Beth You're safe, because I've learned to trust what you toot. There are several others in that category for me. 😀

    Open Source community after Red Hat decides to go closed source 😂 By limiting the RHEL public sources to CentOS Stream, it will now be more difficult for community/off-shoot enterprise Linux distributions like Alma Linux, Rocky Linux, Oracle Linux, etc, to provide 1:1 binary compatible builds against given RHEL releases.

    chessert,
    @chessert@mastodon.online avatar

    @mattb @chessert @nixCraft Then I guess we’re even. One of us doesn’t understand the licensing requirements of open source code, including the requirement to make it publicly available if you use it - incorporate it - into your own product. Just because your company hosts an open source project, doesn’t grant it ownership of that project’s code base: it still belongs to the authors of that code.
