Tennessee Senate Passes Bill Making "Recruiting" For Trans Youth Care A Felony
This really is a time when people have to decide where they stand as terrible things happen under their noses. You’re going to be living with that knowledge and “well it didn’t affect me” won’t cut it.
Today is St George’s Day. Don’t be fooled by the very British name though. If Gammons met St George today they’d immediately say he was a forriner. That story about slaying a dragon is well-suspect. Dragons don’t exist. The rest of his backstory is confused and he’s either a Greek or an Italian depending on your point of view. Spent time in Syria and Palestine which makes him even more suspect. I suspect if he turned up today with those credentials he’d be straight off to Rwanda.
This is what the UK Department for Education are planning to take away from children in pursuit of a certain kind of voter and in the inevitable next fight for leadership of the party. Respecting trans kids saves lives, assuming you care about children. Slide courtesy of the Proud Trust.
Scotland is currently running on almost 100% carbon-free electricity — something it is able to do because of a less deranged form of political governance than we have in England. The North, in particular, often sees zero or very low carbon and the country as a whole props up England by exporting the excess to the south. Regional data from https://www.carbonintensity.org.uk
Just a tip: If NHS England succeeds in shutting down alternative routes for trans people to buy cross sex hormones that are legal to buy over the counter in other countries then they will have completed a proof of concept of the means to shut down unofficial ways of buying oral contraceptives and morning after pills. They’ve already tested how to shut down a crucial one of its kind clinic by painting it as scary…
J K Rowling calls trans soccer official a crossdressing straight man for no reason.
Look, even Elon Musk has advised her to get some other interests. It’s quite the journey she’s been on but she’s not alone and one day I’m sure psychiatrists will write books about this and other phenomena of our time.
So in the last few days we’ve seen a moon lander that landed upside down followed by a lander that tripped over its legs and landed on its side. I appreciate the achievement in not simply making two fresh craters but I don’t think we should get the bunting out until moon landers start reliably landing the right way up, like they did in my day. There is a right way up for a reason.
J K Rowling in ‘arrest me’ challenge over [Scottish] hate crime law.
It’s all come a long way since that time her team claimed she’d tapped a button by mistake. So many burned bridges and no conceivable way back. I wonder where she thinks it ends?
It never stops with Trans people. Fresh from getting away with seizing the private medical records of trans people in Tennessee, republicans are now reaching for abortion provider records from out of state.
There are currently almost 65,000 women and girls pregnant as a result of rape in US states that ban abortion even for rape. That’s a hell of a lot of raping going on. A hell of a lot of ruined lives. The US is a sick, violent, basket case.
Tonight we’ll be just one week from the end of 2023 and so I’m pretty sure the electricity system will be ending it with a total demand of 250TWh. That’s Terawatt hours — a thousand Gigawatt hours or a millions Megawatt hours, however you prefer. That continues the down trend from the days when we used 318TWh, as recently as 2012 and in spite of having 940,000 electric vehicles which were (checks notes) supposed to melt the system down. Coal is 1% and gas is down markedly already.
Dominic Cummings took time out on Easter Sunday to rant that ‘trans does not exist’.
Incidentally, what ever happened to that low earth orbit satellite company he used our money to buy a stake in because his Brexit led to our departure from the EU’s proper GPS consortium?
Fact Check on the Daily Mail: No, A New Study Does Not Show “Being Trans Is Just A Phase”
More to the point, we know conclusively that being obsessed with anti-trans ideation is definitely not just a phase. British media has been obsessed with finding ways to put trans people down for as long as I can remember.
The cost of batteries used in EVs and home storage are apparently set to halve later this year, taking prices crashing below the long-awaited $100 per kWh to just $56$ per kWh. That knocks the cost of the 60kWh battery in a 250-300 mile car from around £8000 to closer to £3000 and should result in some EV models becoming cheaper outright than the comparable fossil fuel vehicle. What it likely means is a Chinese competition bloodbath.
Instead of getting bogged down in the proposition of whether delinquent former presidents have immunity from prosecution it strikes me that the United States really needs to tackle whether Supreme Court judges have immunity.
An ordinary British woman is in jail for holding a placard informing British jurors that they don’t have to convict climate protestors if it goes against their morality. Meanwhile a former US president is repeatedly making statements on social media which can be interpreted as intimidating jurors, witnesses and court officers in his criminal trial whilst it is in progress. Go figure.
Please help protect trans people’s right to safety. Please donate to help Good Law Project to defend the rights to safety that my colleagues and I worked to create and have enjoyed for twenty years. There is a really serious attempt to strip that protection away and I’m frankly too old to fight again.
