Did you know that in 1884 that the first production-standard electric car capable of being reproduced and sold to the public was unveiled? Did you know that in the early 1900s 1/3 of all vehicles on the road were electric? They started to quickly disappear around 1920 with the introduction of petrol and Henry Ford.
Ferdinand Porsche produced an electric vehicle called 'P' in 1898.

This pic is a group of working EV trucks in the UK plugged in in 1917.

To please Putin, universities purge liberals and embrace patriots.

2 weeks before the start of his 25th year as Russia’s supreme political leader, Vladimir Putin made a sweeping proclamation: “Wars are won by teachers.”

The remark shed light on a campaign he is waging: to imbue the country’s education system with patriotism, purge universities of Western influences & quash any dissent among professors & students on campuses that are often hotbeds of political activism.

The Chicago Archaeopteryx, the Field Museum’s Newest Dinosaur, Meets the Public.

The fossil — of the oldest bird dinosaur known to science, often dubbed the “missing link” between the two organisms — is only the 13th #Archaeopteryx specimen ever announced. Just two of these are found in museums outside of Europe and of those two, the Field’s is the only one owned by a public natural history museum.

Boy discovers octopus figurine that fell from cargo ship along with 5m other Lego pieces during storm.

The octopus is one of nearly 5m Lego pieces that fell into the sea in 1997 when a storm hit a cargo ship 20 miles off Land’s End, Cornwall. While 352,000 flippers, 97,500 scuba tanks & 92,400 swords went overboard, octopuses are considered the most prized finds as only 4,200 were onboard.

In the summer of 1947, a woman walked into a drug store in Memphis, Tennessee, to drop off film to be developed when she realized she had one exposure left.

She noticed a young boy outside the drugstore and asked him to pose with his bicycle so she could finish the roll and turn it in.

Only years later did she realise that it was a 12 year old Elvis Presley.

North Korea has celebrated Earth Day by not turning any lights on for the 26,280th day in a row.

Supreme Leader Kim Jung-un praised the courage and indefatigability of himself in ensuring the North Korean people don’t engage with capitalist, western ideas like light bulbs and cooked meals.

He also confirmed he had further reduced North Korean carbon emissions by having underlings carry him to breakfast this morning rather than being driven there as usual. #Earthday #humour #humor #satire

Emma Lilian Todd (1865-1937) was a self-taught inventor who liked to take things apart and put them back together to see how they worked.
A lawyer and a clerk in the US patent Office, she would type up patent applications, and she learned what worked, and what didn’t work.

Inspired by airships she saw on a trip, Todd began creating designs around 1903, trying & eliminating different features until she successfully designed a working #aircraft that improved upon the Wright brothers' model.

Japan's bullet trains are known for their speed, safety and punctuality, but the "shinkansen" service saw a delay this week thanks to an unwelcome animal passenger.

A commuter traveling on a train between Nagoya and Tokyo spotted a 40-centimeter snake on board.

While dogs, cats and even small animals like pigeons are allowed to accompany passengers, snakes aren't, and it is not clear how the serpent found itself on the train.

A man turned the biggest pumpkin grown in Australia this year into a canoe, and paddled it down the country's Tumut River.

Adam Farquharson's friend, Mark Peacock, won a blue ribbon for his mammoth pumpkin and Farquharson decided that wouldn't be the end of the giant gourd's career.

Farquharson, hollowed out the 407-kilogram pumpkin — named Tormund after the "Game of Thrones" character — and took it to the water as 1,000 spectators watched
