Any neo-pronouns or he/him if you must.
Not new, I've just had bad luck with main instance picking.
Boosts are seldom a reflection of what I think of the person posting (because I don't check unless I see red flags), but usually a reflection of what I think of the post itself.
I block random people who tag me out of nowhere (but replies are usually fine).

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

boosts appreciated!!! :boostRequest:

can somebody with more wikipedia editor clout than me please add a section on the "threads (social network)" page about fedipact?

or even just bring up on the talk page that it might be relevant to mention

i think this would help inform people about our cause lol

there are more than enough news articles about fedipact that could be cited

Last boost white and non-Black people stop responding to Black people's posts about racism with any variation of "I'm one of the good ones" or "how can I be one of the good ones?" challenge (there is literally a single person I saw in her replies who isn't in one of these two categories and he only replied to call out someone who was)
Not everything is about you! You don't need to reply, just read what's already written on the topic!

I really feel like we're losing progress on transition to greener alternatives because so many of the voices (and therefore lived experiences) of this space in the US are abled, white, male, middle class,and living in cities with better public transit.

It's not that they never have good points or are unable to persuade folks - it's that they make assumptions based on their own experiences that really do not hold for a lot of other people. And they won't hand the mic over to find out what would.

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@glightly it sucks that you even have to specify this. I feel like every time a disabled person says "this solution wouldn't work for me" people tend to assume that we're just saying we support the status quo, and refuse to listen to our proposed solutions that would work for us.
Like, I'm not pro-car. I fucking hate depending on a car to get around. I'm just pro-being-able-to-leave-my-house. I would much prefer accessible and adequate public transport! And wheelable cities!

LB I've considered calling myself ambiamorous because right now I'm very happy in my relationship with one person in which neither of us are dating or having sex with anyone else, but on the other hand idt I would ever be comfortable with a situation where we've actually set a boundary that we can't, partially bc I don't want to limit myself that way and partially bc I'd much rather a partner openly be with other people than lie to me about it, for both emotional and STI safety reasons

If you are considering gender harmonization surgery (of any kind), but just not sure if it's the right decision, here is the best way to figure out whether you actually want it or not:

First thing's first: Take the first step right now.

Here's the reality: Wait times are absolutely horrendous so get on the list. Today. Now.

All the rest of this can happen during the year or however long you are forced to wait. Get on the list.

Call around, set up some consultations right now. Put all the "But which minor variation of the surgery do I want?" thoughts out of your head. Get on a list.

Then get on another surgeon's list for a different minor variation. Then get on another for the third minor variation you're thinking about.

Get on the list. Today. Now.

Because it's going to be like two years before you are in surgery, and you can do all your hemming and hawing during that time.

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@rachaelspooky @DivineKestrel not a good enough reason to put it off, but might be a good reason to put yourself on multiple lists. Because yeah society is fatphobic as fuck and it's entirely possible that one or two doctors will say you're too heavy. But definitely not all of them, no matter what you weigh (because the weight restrictions tend to be made up bullshit and it's perfectly safe for any weight)

Every time I accidentally click on an ad or, much more angering, I do absolutely nothing and an ad still opens its page on the Google Play store, I remind myself that by allowing this shit in their ads Google is letting one of its most useful vectors of telemetry be hijacked so that it gives them absolutely no information about me other than that an ad was on my phone. And that makes me feel a bit better

And every day, at around 6 o'clock pm, he's annoyed us enough that we inevitably give up and feed him dinner. Even if he's not currently screaming at us and forgot himself.

I know it’s a privilege but we found a group of masking families and we just came from an outdoor birthday party where we all masked and the kids had a blast. I can’t stop smiling. This is what it could be. Games, fun, normal kid stuff. Just in a mask. I hope people saw us at the park today: an island of an alternate reality that could be where people cared.

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@agathachristieandcoffee I'm glad those kids get to grow up seeing health and safety measures as something that empowers them to have fun and make connections, rather than some sort of burden like propaganda has been saying. Masks should be as normalized as seatbelts or close-toed shoes or harnesses (for climbing or pets, either way they generally protect the wearer)

Being hyper-abled and disabled are not mutually exclusive. That's why there are terms for people who exist at both ends of the ability/disability spectrum at the same time. "Twice exceptional", "idiot savant", "splinter skills", "spiky skill profile"... These are a few of the terms invented specifically to describe such a pattern. Autistic people, in particular, are likely to fit this pattern.

#ActuallyAutistic
#TwiceExceptional
#TwiceGifted
#Savantism
#IdiotSavant
#SplinterSkills
#Ableism

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@hosford42 I wonder if neurotypicals ppl would be more likely to understand this if they had ever been taught that Einstein, Da Vinci, etc all having learning disabilities. Probably not, I think a lot of them know about Van Gogh's depression at least and yet they don't make the connection for the people they interact with

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@hosford42 @JoBlakely yup. I wish I wasn't disabled, and by that I don't mean I want to be different myself, I mean I wish society was built in a way that I could thrive exactly the way I am. Dietary restrictions, inability to work full shifts, ADHD ping-ponging between projects, ambulatory wheelchair use, inability to ride a bike and all.

Are you susceptible to believing propaganda? Please explain your answer and reasoning.

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@BlackAzizAnansi I've done a lot of work to identify and ignore propaganda, but no website is immune to a good hacker. Some propagandists--enough to make a big impact--are really good at manipulation and it's impossible to be closed to manipulation without also being closed to feedback and accountability and differing opinions. So I put yes, because I generally try to have an open mind and unfortunately that can let bad things in too

A lot of abled people in my area display certain customs of politeness towards visibly disabled people, like letting them/us (depending on the day lol) get on elevators first and holding doors open. Which is great! But it's pretty funny when a bus pulls up and the ableds waiting for it clear the way for a wheelchair user to go up the stairs 😭 I've seen this happen several times now

Is tiktok giving user data to an authoritarian government? Probably yes. Is Twitter, facebook, instagram, etc giving user data to an authoritarian government? Also yes.

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@cobweb I can't tell if it's a) racism or b) a realization that TikTok is where kids these days organize and an unrealistic hope that banning it will simply prevent us from doing so...
My guess is both.

Has anybody written about the near-ubiquitous online trend of bowdlerizing text, either to avoid being penalized by the algorithm (real or imagined) or to avoid content being searchable by others? We have people who communicate about "s*x" instead of "sex" and... that's probably a very bad thing.

raphaelmorgan,
@raphaelmorgan@disabled.social avatar

@FeralRobots @Gargron @anildash I think we're on different sides of the internet. At least on TikTok, I regularly see people use the word "unalive" when talking very seriously about tragic events. Not as a bit, but in the hopes of actually getting the information out there without their video being taken down or shadowbanned. I'm willing to bet the people you see using it ironically are riffing off of TikTok censorship and resulting self-censorship by ppl who post on TikTok
