LB I'm not the type of person to think everything can be solved with voting and by politicians, but we should definitely take the W on stuff like this. And remember, if you have the energy to be writing emails etc to politicians and especially if you're in their specific constituency, this is a good time for it. I hope he gets a lot of kind words from queer Nebraskans right now, and even that the bill co-signers who abstained get some reassurance that they did the right thing.

@CStamp @markwyner I regularly see things that aren't my aesthetic preference when I'm out and about. And instead of arguing that all bodies should be policed so that everything always looks perfect to me, I simply look away. I don't like looking at shirtless men, so I look at the trees or the ground or a dog someone's walking. Idk, that seems like a choice to me

I'm gonna make a prediction about Threads: they're going to put pressure on the big servers (that are federating with them) to ban sex work and porn "for community safety." And the people who run them will uncritically just accept that's true.

@AimeeMaroux @amy I'd agree except some admins (e.g. yours) are notorious for Not listening to what the users want. I do not trust the admins of the biggest servers not to cave to pressure, especially if Meta pulls out certain moves it's totally capable of, like financially backing servers that comply or finding ways to threaten those that don't.

leftists, communists, socialists, what have you who are against UBI just because it doesn't do enough to dismantle capitalism... have you never heard of triage?
if someone comes into the ER for a heart attack, you can't work on fixing all the factors that led to the heart attack until you treat the fucking heart attack. people are starving and unhoused right now, so yeah, if there's anything we can do in the meantime while we work on overthrowing capitalism we should fucking do it

@bridgeweaver exactly! Or even if you're none of those things but you have to work at least one full time job to keep it that way. I think one of the most common types of person right now is "housed and eating food but losing their job or working less would be devastating to their financial security." Which is also pretty distracting

Masking is not just a "protect yourself and others from COVID" thing. That's not the primary purpose anymore, at least not in places with low COVID rates. It's also a "protect your immunocompromised loved ones and peers from illness in general, because every time we get sick we lose weeks or months of our ability to go to work or classes and risk making our disabilities permanently worse" thing.

And for immunocompromised people who are also poor, missing months of work could be a life or death thing. Missing months of work or classes is often a housed or homeless thing--even for people who don't live under the poverty line. Missing months or even weeks of classes can determine whether or not someone can afford to get a degree--get delayed by even a semester, and your financial aid or savings might run out too soon.
Not to mention permanent disability making it harder to work forever.

hey to any friends out there who live in the US and are on T, are there extra restrictions to you filling your prescription because it’s a controlled substance? Do you have to show ID or anything?

@tillybridges not currently on T but ime yes, the person picking it up has to present ID. Other people have been able to pick it up for me though, it doesn't matter if it's the ID of the prescribed person you just have to prove you're an adult picking it up ig. Or maybe you don't have to be an adult, I don't remember if I was able to pick it up before I turned 18

I think that a view of "this is what's good for you so you'd better do it" is generally infringing bodily autonomy. I do support mandatory vaccines though, because "I want to be able to spread around whatever diseases I want" is infringing the bodily autonomy of those of us who need protection from illness. Less paternalistic, more pro-social

So I was gonna keep the blond streaks for a while before dying my hair purple because I was pleasantly surprised by how vibrant and shiny my hair was once bleached. But the other day a girl with mouse brown hair complimented me specifically on how light my hair is now, so I dyed it early out of spite.

My sister and I were disagreeing about something that I learned in an upper div biology class taught by someone with a Doctorate.
I looked it up. She was right, from what she was reading. Sciencedirect.com had less simplified, more nuanced, and more accurate information.
Every day I question a little more whether I could learn more if I didn't go to school.

If you have ADHD, it's hard to explain to (cishet non-ND) non-ADHDers the Othering you experience at every step of seeking treatment to correct an executive function neurocircuitry aberration/variance.

From day one I've received feedback about my hyperkineticism, hyperverbality, impulse control, inability to follow multiple step tasks, my reactivity, rejection sensitivity.

And people wonder why I've only finally found peace working remotely & by cutting out my parents from my life.
