How do you think International Law would look at the following situation:

5 years from now, humanoid robots are really good and relatively cheap. Russia tries invade a non-NATO country. The US sends 10,000 robotic soldiers, which are technically operated locally.

I need your help . One of the classes I'm taking at the graduate level this semester is Religion & Science Fiction. I read more fantasy, and would like to do my research paper on something that's not obvious (like ST/BS5/Matrix/etc.) & I'd love to use more modern sf rather than the golden age classics.

Anyone have any interesting ideas for my research paper on regarding the intersection of religion and science fiction?

@mrundkvist @intichavezperez Inte för att det finns många doktorandtjänster att få i teoretisk filosofi – men ännu färre kommer väl att leda till lektorat i ämnet. (För 30 år sedan antog man alla som var behöriga – och några till – till forskarutbildningen. Och lektoraten var inte fler då. Så kanske går färre i fällan nu; men kanske har de å andra sidan större falska förhoppningar på en forskarkarriär, när det sker en sådan hård gallring redan till doktorandplatserna…)

@wildmandrake @philosophy It's ten classic and very influential books. I wouldn't rank Ayer's book up with the rest of them, though. Ayer's version of logical positivism is the one usually taught to philosophy students in English textbooks on the history of 20th century, but it isn't really representative of most or the best or the most influential works of logical positivism (from the likes of Carnap, Hempel, Neurath, or Waismann).

@wildmandrake @philosophy Also, there's a heavy focus there on British empiricism, i.e. the tradition of Locke, Hume, and Berkeley. Not that they're not all worth reading, but if you want a grasp of the great variety within historical western philosophy, you'd do well to exchange Locke and Berkeley for Leibniz and Spinoza.

Robert Bloch makes a silly mistake in "Strange Eons". First he informs us that this character is 24. Then eight pages later he lets the guy reminisce about moving out from his dad' house, going to uni and getting a job, all in terms that suggest he's at least 40. "I remember how pleased he was when I took up journalism at UCLA." Oh really, you remember something that happened four or five years ago?

@failedLyndonLaRouchite @andrewstroehlein Of course, no mutually acceptable solution is acceptable to anyone who doesn't want a mutually acceptable solution. Leaders who insist not on solving a conflict but on destroying an enemy can't ever possibly find a mutually acceptable solution. If leaders on both sides would rather make peace than destroy an enemy, sure they could work it out. It's not that e.g. the Oslo Accords are utopian. The problem is leaders don't want mutually acceptable solution.

#Movie: Panique au Village (2009). Amazing stop-motion animation made with cheap plastic toy figures at varying scales in a crazy, drastic surrealist narrative, as if improvised by hyperactive children. I kept laughing out loud in amazement and delighted surprise. Grade: great!

@mrundkvist Perhaps you’re looking at the wrong side of the lawn. I think they often built those manors below their lawns back then. That way they got more space on top for jousts and croquet tournaments.

    Just nu angriper den svenska ”nationella rörelsen” – från NMR till SD och allt och alla däremellan – Tobias Hübinette och Karlstads universitet. Folk som mailat Hübinette, oavsett om vad, kartläggs, hängs ut, bombarderas med stora mängder mail och trakasseras på andra sätt.

    Det är dels en maktuppvisning, dels en ”anti-woke”-strid mot akademin. Den kommer att följas av fler, särskilt om den lyckas. Universitetets rektor har hittills valt att inte ta strid, ”kan inte agera utan saklig grund”.

    @faktoider Tips på administrativt försvar: Gör om 7,5 hp-kursen till ett kurspaket med två kurser på 1 hp resp. 6,5 hp. Examinera den första 1 hp-kursen med ett seminarium där det krävs att man deltar på ett konstruktivt sätt för G, och låt godkänt betyg på den kursen vara krav för behörighet till den följande 6,5 hp-kursen.

    Vad kallas det när man inte kommer på vad någonting heter? Nu för tiden kan ju sådant mestadels avhjälpas snabbt och effektivt. Men inte alltid … Nyss satt jag och försökte allt mer desperat att komma på vad det kallas när man röjer med eld. Allehanda slagningar på röjning + eld + … prövades. Skummade beskrivningar av neolitikum. Bläddrade i SAOB och NE. Utan framgång. Tills jag lyckades slappna av på rätt sätt, och glosan "svedjebruk" slank in i tänkandet, självklart och odramatiskt. Pust
