How do I get out of paralysis ?

shekinahcancook,
@shekinahcancook@babka.social avatar

@calispera

Maybe just pick one or two things that you want to get done today, and say to yourself that you're setting the rest aside. That helps somewhat with overload.

Just saw this ad for a magnetic tag that can be bound to your bags to allow you to leave handbags and backpacks hanging on any metal surface.

Anyone with #ADHD upon seeing this. 😳

I’m often seen carrying a messenger bag that never leaves my body. Even when I do put it down in public, I usually loop a strap around my leg.

There’s a reason for that.

A purse magnetically attached to the side of a car by way of a tag with a magnet inside it.
A magnetic tag on a purse holds the purse up against a magnetic door frame. Text overlay reads “in restrooms.”
A magnetic tag shaped like a leaf holds a backpack up against a bathroom stall door. Text reads “In restrooms”

@kissane I kissed my driver’s license and a bunch of cash goodbye in my head about 10 times just looking at that.

Hey #ActuallyAutistic peeps (my #ADHD and other #neurodivergent cousins can chime in as well):

What is the term for that type of inertia where you can't get anything else done in a given day because you have one time-specific thing on your calendar so you end up waiting until you do that one thing?

I know there are words for it. I just can't remember them.

Thanks for any help!

rick,
@rick@ricko.social avatar

@arisummerland I've always heard it as "wait mode". Typically specified with a qualifier to help NTs understand it's an ND thing, like "ADHD wait mode", "autistic wait mode", or "ND wait mode".

Green,
@Green@chaos.social avatar

Had to leave an webinar early.

It was on procrastination and little did I realize when it started that it was 1.5 hours long! 😬

30 minutes in and the speaker was still building up the great solution and STILL hadn’t got to the point so I left.

Sometimes these “experts” leave me feeling exploited more than helped.

I mostly recharged this weekend. I opted to work at home today. No meetings afforded me to catch up on a few tasks and chores, too. It was sublime.

Son arrived home covered in clay from the baseball diamond at school. Under protest he stripped to underwear and was sent to shower. Clothes and shoes are being de-clayed.

Now he’s finishing schoolwork not completed this PM. He did pick up on the “it’s not time to talk back” vibe. So yay.

“AuDHD represents a blend of ADHD and autistic traits, leading to unique experiences and challenges. When the underlying needs of ADHD and autism interact, it can feel like a tug of war for the AuDHDer - Do I need routine or spontaneity? Newness or familiarity? Busyness or a steady pace? Though these examples are quite simplistic, they illustrate the internal confusion of the AuDHDer attempting to address their needs.”
