This beautiful image by @vgcartography (twitter) highlights one of my favorite details in this level: The spikes above the water are the tips of the sunken ruin's towers.
Sunshine's sense of space in & across all levels on Isle Delfino are some of the best out there! #mario#gaming#nintendo
@renwillis missing a single word (of) doesn't really make it more concise when you switch numbers so that everyone has to check - and it doesn't make sense to go month/day/year - go up in unit size (start with day) or down (start with year) - the US believing their system is normal and everyone else is weird is very... US, is all I'm saying. The rest of the world does it differently.
I've lived in the US, it's one of the most irritating admin things tbh
@noodlemaz Honestly, it really doesn’t matter and you could argue either makes sense. You could also argue year-first makes sense due to how data & file names are organized.
Hell… One could argue our Gregorian calendar system in general is pretty silly & antiquated. Humans, eh? Weird little animal.
My advice to you is just be a leaf in the river, my friend. “When in Rome…” and all that. Conservatism and rigidity makes for a pretty boring life!
Inspired by @keysaunt I decided to try my hand at #TapestryCrochet! I learned a ton making this piece, and I think I'll do more in the future, but I definitely want to invest in some bobbins first.
looking forward to generating some sequences from my own playing, but TBH I think I need to hear a probabilistic version of the moon theme from Ducktales (NES)
Figured out how to go from midi bars to a matrix representation and back! Opens up lots of possibilities. Here I do some probabilistic mario music based on note x time probabilities calculated from the matrix representation. #midi#rstats#generativemusic#rstatsmusic#mario
I don't yet have the code base to really start exploring generative midi music with variations on the above approach, but I should be able to start with playing my own arrangements into a midi file, do matrix stuff with the corpus of notes, and then use that to generate new things...I'm not sure what to expect, but whatever it is should be fun to run through my #eurorack synth
Mario Paint Data Overflow Error
There is a subtle flaw in SNES art creation tool Mario Paint. It has 32K of Save RAM, which is not technically enough to save an entire project, normal and animation canvases included. The program uses data compression to get everything to fit, and the compression is good enough that most of the time everything can be squeezed in, https://setsideb.com/mario-paint-data-overflow-error/ #retro#datacompression#error#mario#mariopaint#overflow#retro#snes
On Super Mario World’s Score Display
Awesome Mario trivia blog Supper Mario Broth noted on Mastodon that Super Mario World is extremely inefficient in displaying Mario's score.
