I have gotten the impression over the last year that the fossil fools are expending a lot of effort towards turning Americans away from EVs towards ICEVs so-called hybrid vehicles.

I'll let y'all in on a secret that they want to keep from you. We have to stop burning fossil fuels just as quickly as we possibly can and putting a fossil fuel burning engine into new vehicles is not helping towards that necessary goal to address the existential crisis we're facing.

@GreenFire Many electric vehicles are unaffordable for most people on planet Earth—even those in first world nations.

Electric Vehicles also do not perform as well in colder climates when it comes to range, & are equally disadvantaged when hauling additional weight (compared to gas guzzlers).

I am unsure what the near term solution is, but with the world distracted by inflation & war, / receives little public attention nowadays.

GreenFire,

@darnell
Please try to be more careful and avoid spreading the lies from the fossil fuel industry meant to block climate action.

Norwegians have been buying more EVs than they have ICEVs for years. If they didn't work well in colder climates than that would obviously not be happening.

@darnell
There are a lot of people that can afford to decarbonize that are not doing it so until that happens I don't think that focusing all of the attention on low income people is helpful towards reducing the amount of carbon pollution being emitted into our atmosphere since their contribution is so much lower than from rich people.

GreenFire,
@GreenFire@mstdn.social avatar

@darnell
I am glad that enough Americans voted for a POTUS that is trying to help lower income people though so don't get me wrong.

"As part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda and Bidenomics, the Biden-Harris Administration is announcing new actions to lower the cost of electric vehicles (EVs) for Americans and build a convenient, reliable, Made-in-America EV charging network."

@GreenFire is doing a phenomenal job in trying to reduce emissions in America 🇺🇸. Did you hear about the new electric rail line between Las Vegas & Los Angeles‽ https://www.brightlinewest.com/

I was surprised was able to get this done, as the have been hell bent on stopping projects like this.

Biden wants these rails across the country—& it is doable if win in November.

LaNaehForaday,

@GreenFire

FUN FACT

The only thing better than any vehicles is NO VEHICLES.

And since no one is going to go there - WHERE WE HAVE TO BE - we will not survive the idea that we cant live without vehicles.

Walk when/where you can.

eBike/eScooter where/when you can't walk but can 2 (or 3) wheel.

Take public transit where/when you can't walk or 2/3-wheel.

Drive an EV where/when you can't walk, 2/3-wheel or take public transit.

LaNaehForaday,

@joeinwynnewood @GreenFire

I live entirely off grid.
I make my own electricity.
I gather my own water.
I heat my own water with passive solar.
I grow my own food.
I drive less than 20 miles a week.
I dont buy plastic as much as is possible.
I have my own septic system.
I do not need anything a regular city provides aside from internet.

I do every single thing I can. I suffer for this planet. I make sure I am consuming the least I possibly can.

I love the EARTH AS MY GOD.
I worship and honor the planet as my source of life.
It hurts my heart that so many people love money instead.

@LaNaehForaday @joeinwynnewood
I only share my experience based on successfully helping to get millions of tons of carbon dioxide from being polluted into our atmosphere through my activism and lobbying. You are welcome to do with it whatever you want.

After spending decades working to try to save our planet from global warming, I'm quite used to being disliked by people online and in person over my efforts.

LaNaehForaday,

@GreenFire So what part of "I like you" means I dislike you.

And kudos for doing all that you do.

But dont come ramming false truth down the throat of someone who ias been just as dedicated as you have been.

And dont expect me to believe you because you want to pretend its not too late already.

Because I know that YOU know that it is and all we can hope for now is to gain a little time and mitigate the upcoming climate disasters.

GreenFire,
@GreenFire@mstdn.social avatar

@LaNaehForaday
How come your opinion on how much global warming we'll suffer from is a better representation than what my colleagues' modeling show?

Doomism is doing as much to block climate action as are the efforts of the fossil fuel industry, but of course everyone is free to push whatever narrative floats their boats.

@kathhayhoe @MichaelEMann

LaNaehForaday,

@GreenFire The entire problem is that even the people that seriously know we are in peril continue to sugar coat it. Go for it!

In the meantime, Ill continue to what I can on a personal level which is more than most.

GreenFire,
@GreenFire@mstdn.social avatar

@LaNaehForaday
Fair enough, this short excerpt from Dr. Michael Mann addressing the growing doomerism is good antidote to help convince people that we are actually not doomed since we have the time, technology, and growing awareness such that we have the agency to save most of our biodiversity.

Sugar coat away.........................

Ill deal with the realism while watching everyone dance with the fairies.

tmstreet,
@tmstreet@urbanists.social avatar

@LaNaehForaday @GreenFire Why do you bother to do things on a personal level, if humankind is doomed anyway.? This is not a criticism as I also do what I can do on a personal level but am convinced that the time for action was many years ago. Humankind doesn't seemed to want to be saved and so will become extinct or near extinct

LaNaehForaday,

@tmstreet @GreenFire

I am delighted you asked.
And not only am I delighted, it goes to the point I was earlier making about my lack of belief in God.

I do NOT need a GOD invented by others to force me into being a good person on threat that if I am not a good person that I will go to hell.

I AM A GOOD PERSON REGARDLESS OF WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I DIE.

I bother to do things on a personal level BECAUSE I PERSOANLLY CARE ABOUT THE PLANET and will not die feeling like I could have done more because for the last forty plus year I have actively done better and better.....FOR ME. I do it for me.

I do it because I happen to think it is intelligent to not actively kill the thing you need to remain alive. I do it because I see senseless suffering of all the other species due to human stupidity. I do it because I actually care enough about the earth that I am willing to sacrifice to show my devotion.

I do it unconditionally without needing permission because it is the RIGHT thing to do.

GreenFire,
@GreenFire@mstdn.social avatar

@LaNaehForaday
Climate action is not a scientific situation nor even rational sadly.

The only way possible to get the decarbonization done that we need in the short time we have left is to tackle it politically.

And telling people that they cannot continue to own cars is not a politically popular proposal so it's less than worthless to focus on it. Do you have any idea how long it would take to build out a rail system in the USA?

LaNaehForaday,

@GreenFire

First, I like you so dont talk down to me.
Secondly I live entirely off grid and am doing everything humanly possible to honor theplanet I live on.

Thirdly, pussy footiing around will gain you nothing but more time wasted because you are sugar coating something that has a time line.

And fine if people can't face the truth. We will die because people are spoiled.

lastly, do I have any idea how long it takes to make trains????????????

We DONT HAVE THAT TIME.
We dont have ANY time.
The time in which we had time was in the SIXITES.

Telling people they cannot own cars will fall on deaf ears just like all the rest of this crap has fallen.

HUMANS ARE TOO SPOILED and the thing that IS GOING TO HAPPEN............Humans will perish.

So yea, sorry dudes, you cant have your cars....is the tough part because dying is going to be easier.

CurtAdams,
@CurtAdams@urbanists.social avatar

@GreenFire @LaNaehForaday Even more, how long would it take to completely rebuild almost every city in the US so that people even could take trains everwhere? About a hundred years at current construction rates.

Less cars? Great, I'm on it myself. No cars? Simply impossible - but fortunately not necessary either. BEVs on solar power produce no emissions, and they are here now.

LaNaehForaday,

@CurtAdams @GreenFire

And here is the rub.
The one and only way to stop this catastrophe cold, in it's tracks and possibly buy us another decade or so is to do the IMPOSSIBLE.

And we will not.

We refuse.

We talk about all the little steps we can take and everyone easily admits it will take decades to produce the infrastructure that we need. The infrastructure that we should have started building in the last century.

But we did not.

Because we wont.

Because our cars mean more to us than life. In the same way money means more to us than life.

We cant even get people to stop using plastic bags after decades of trying.

We are writing our own demise and coloring it with pretty ideas that we have no intentions of ever performing.

One day we will all pronounce that we are ready to give up our autos so we can survive and it will be too late because we NEED TO DO THIS TODAY in order for it to help.

And its correctly already labeled as IMPOSSIBLE.

CurtAdams,
@CurtAdams@urbanists.social avatar

@LaNaehForaday @GreenFire

Bah on disasterbating. What's required is to stop emitting CO2. That's very possible with electric cars, electric appliances, solar, wind, batteries, and industrial green hydrogen. We've got what's needed.

The world isn't going to be destroyed, even on the comparatively bad paths. 3C is now looking like the worst case and while that's very bad and I don't want to minimize it civilization will still be here. The name of the game now is minimizing the damage.

LaNaehForaday,

@CurtAdams @GreenFire

No dude, the world is going to be just fine. And I love how people talk down to other people in order to reassure them that the world is going to be just fine.

HUMANS however and an abundant of living species will cease to exist but the world is going to be just fine.

You just go on with your big bad self and continue to feel that humans are actually going to get motivated enough to put all the things into effect that needed to happen already, at some future date. Sure, I would hate to be "disasterbating"" WTF

In the meantime, talk and talk and then talk somemore and have a few more talks. Then have everyone discuss what was talked about and make all their complaints.

Talk away because we certainly dont want to let people know IT IS TIME RIGHT NOW TO DO SOMETHING BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

CurtAdams,
@CurtAdams@urbanists.social avatar

@LaNaehForaday @GreenFire Humans and civilization will still be here at 3C. Some wild species won't. But there will be even more lost if people don't take the actions that are currently reducing emissions because they want to fantasize about things that aren't going to happen.

Drive electric, drive less, heat pumps, solar panels, offshore wind, batteries, etc; these are all working; we just need more.

LaNaehForaday,

@CurtAdams

And again ................the entire subject is that we need to do things RIGHT NOW. You can continue to list all those things over and over again. We can continue to talk about how long it will take people to be convinced they need to participate, how long it takes our government to create the infrastructure and how long it takes to convince everyone that we all actually need to implement these things into our life.

AND I will still be standing here yelling about how we needed to act today -RIGHT NOW.

And I will no doubt be standing here watching ALL of you admonishing me about how we will survive and everything is going to be alright when I can clearly see humanity as a giant shit that the earth is constantly attempting to flush.

MarkBrigham,

@LaNaehForaday @GreenFire True, but…

We can and should build out an infrastructure that makes individual vehicular travel the exception rather than the norm.

We had this once upon a time, but Big Auto ruined it.
