@molly0xfff the engineering parts of ML and AI have so often been overlooked, unfortunately. the idea of “magic” is too much to handle for a lot of people
@molly0xfff that whole thing is obviously bad and sucks, but there's bad actors everywhere.
There's obviously issues with this kind of AI, but I will never get comparing LLMs, which many thousands of people are getting use from right now, can be compared to crypto, which has never been shown to be useful for anything other than scamming.
@collin@molly0xfff for me, the biggest thing is that many of the same exact people behind the crypto hype bubble are also behind the ai hype bubble. they massively inflate the usefulness of things like LLMs as compared to the human generated writing they synthesize, while distracting from the real downsides (IP theft, job outsourcing/commodification thru potemkin ai, etc) with such sci fi fantasies as “we’ll all get turned into paperclips if we don’t mandate guardrails”
Re this bit from the article, Electronic Arts will probably (try to) sue them out of existence anyway:

Sims speak "Simlish" (a conlang: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simlish ) within the game. Presumably, the AI on offer would speak in English or another real-world human language.
@funcrunch@molly0xfff I’m not sure it would be in our interest to put more light on this, but then trademark violations must be challenged or one looses the trademark. But what do I know? I’m just a programmer. I bet actually knowledgeable people are dealing with this.
@molly0xfff I am going to not read the article and instead just assume this means there was no AI and the CEO himself was cosplaying Caryn Marjorie in chats with users. Hence the service cannot work when he's in jail.
