@schmaker@tinker@halva it's very awkward and completely unintuitive. I get the theoretical appeal (I'm a big fan of the fediverse!) but the implementation will need to evolve
@schmaker@tinker@stooovie@halva 🎯there’re some methodologies on internet content but the gist of most of them is that the goal is to ditch the ‘accounts’ paradigm and shift to one of ‘broadcasting’. this is adjacent. it’s not just “cool”—it makes the walled gardens we’re all familiar with transparent & permeable.
on the fediverse, you can get your youtube subscriptions and your twitter feed and instagram posts all in your app (or not!) of choice.
we’re just hitting a critical point of usage and content where we can see the cross-pollination benefits. i think in a year’s time, we’ll see apps that have dedicated sections for video feeds, ‘stories’, photos, and short & long text like the sections of a magazine or newspaper.
@schmaker doesn't work anyway. I copy the URL of a lemmy.world post, put it into search box in Mastodon, and get "Could not find anything for these search terms". I remember doing this with a Pixelfed post so I know it works, but it doesn't now.
@stefan - I've been here since 2017. It took off a while back. In fact, the bulk of my industry, the bulk of my hobbies, my political and economic activism, and my religion has large and active communities here - more so than other social media platforms (eg the corporate ones)
@tinker yeah. It’s great. you can also follow lemmy communities. Just paste the url in the search box of your client. Works also with other fediverse platforms.
@millions yes, but not the instance. More the comments of one community/group. I don’t think a mastodon account is a full replacement to use lemmy. Alone the char limit makes it weird. Still I follow some communities. Most of them are not that active. Seeing the comments in my case is not too bad, because otherwise I would miss the whole thread.
