I've seen a number of people just starting their own instances to help with the load.
And I've already seen conversations where people have started discussing migrations, account mobility, services to make the boundaries between instances less cumbersome. A real thriving and capable community might be building around there.
Depending on how the #reddit meltdown goes, the #threadiverse (#lemmy, #kbin etc) might be a good place to contribute if you're keen to build new things in the fediverse.

The only political thing I've seen the developers instill in their software is anti-racism (they've apparently tried to hardcode some resistance against racial slurs, which is interesting if not ultimately futile).
Otherwise, they're tankies who regularly highlight pro-western/US propaganda and I for one think that that's not so bad even if can cross the line into being wrong.
@maegul there is no grayzone here. Supporting russia against Ukraina, denying the genocide of the uighurs, antisemitism, calling gen.sec Jens Stoltenberg and NATO nazi even though Jens was attacked by a nazi terrorist bombing and massshooting when he was stateminister of Norway.
I understand that a lot of people here are super leftist, but if we can't kick out the worst on our side, how can we expect the right doing the same?

@cbt Genuinely interested to see some receipts (I'm not that close with the devs and may have missed many of the things they've said, especially in the past).
Beyond that, the thing for me is that, AFAICT, they're happy making their software for others and encourage new communities, instances and forks to be made. At some point there is a grayzone if their opinions are more nuanced than your reduction here and we're not talking about politicians but developers/software with other shared values.
