@inaya the lead dev behind lemmy is extremely racist and bigoted, to the point of being red-brown in political persuasion. full-on unironic soviet and CCP justifications for genocides against cossacks, uighers (especially islamic ones) and tibetans, but also breathtaking levels of antisemitism and the types of "jokes" that subscribers to the exploding head instance (translation - flat-out neo-nazis) would think was "funny"
@pilirin@inaya That’s just all kinds of messed up, and perfectly illustrates one of the dangers of decentralised social media. Entire instances literally devoted to bigotry. We can block and defederate from them, sure, but they can just create a new instance and do more of the same.

his instance lemmy.ml was the largest one before reddit melted down. the people there are OVERTLY radical socialists. they have a community advocating for stealing food. there is also lemmygrad, which is populated by out-and-proud soviet apologists. then there's beehaw where the mods have gone insane with parasocial godhood ... but they were also radsocs as well, somewhere between where lemmy.ml and lemmygrad politically, but in ideological conflict with both. there have also been new instances being overly run by socialists for socialist purposes.
so if the software was originated by a tankie, and the majority of people using it before the start of this month were fugees from r/chapotraphouse getting banned, how the fuck can anyone explain the literal nazi instances as well as the ones run by rock spider kiddie-fiddlers who use words like "loli" and "ephebophilia" unironically ???
and could someone please explain why it took the lemmy dev and his enormous team of bulemic vegans almost six months to do something that ernst (the dev of kbin) did in the space of 18 days all by himself? do you think the posting-novella-length-racist-manifestos-everywhere thing might have something to do with it?
oh, and along with all of that, bear in mind that devs have access to all fields that were filled in for all accounts on every federated instance. do you want someone who can't decide if they are more loyal to soviets, nazis, or the CCP to have hold of THAT much of YOUR personal data?
even lemmy kilmister from motorhead, the dude who the software is BLATANTLY named after, would find this situation concerning.
