@idoubtit I’m on Lemmy.world but not kbin but I can actively view kbin.social and post to their magazines. Are you maybe on 2 instances that aren’t federated with each other? #fediverse#threadiverse
@idoubtit ok I am by no means an expert. I’ve only been getting my feet wet with the fediverse the past month. I have abandoned the interaction between mastodon and lemmy myself because the differences between the 2 platforms (thread based vs microblogging) just didn’t seem to make sense with the UI. Still cool that these things can all somewhat “talk” to each other.
@idoubtit I just tested and I was able to start a new thread to lemmy.world via mastodon.social. Maybe your instances are having some kind of issue? I also found this simple video extremely helpful if you haven’t seen it: https://youtu.be/SXUDs0ee_w0
The Reddit style social media style is a lot different than the Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, etc style. Each Fediverse reincarnation is picking those old-style ecosystems up. I'm glad.
I'm still following some kbin/lemmy topics via Mastodon, even have accounts
But, I like neat, micro posts like here. Use Reddit style sites for special purpose. Not keen on the FB style, groups, 'cousins baby graduation friends' posts at the FB reincarnations (lol)
The joy of the Fediverse is it is already there in some form.
For example, "creating a Mastodon post while mentioning a Lemmy community/topic will create a discussion post within the Lemmy Community, with the first line of the Mastodon post becoming the discussion post's title."
@idoubtit not having a feed is correct behaviour, no? Wouldn’t you expect it to be more like Reddit?
I’m not sure what you’re saying about Kbin/Lemmy problems. Are people using Lemmy unable to see stuff posted on Kbin? Or is commenting not working? I haven’t experienced any problems, but I mostly just read. No original posts and only a few comments.
@idoubtit yeah, I think the thing I’m also starting to wrap my head around is that it isn’t one-account-to-rule-them-all. You need a native accoun on platforms to take advantage. Some don’t understand certain features (eg Mastodon doesn’t understand Lemmy/Kbin downvoting), and most platforms are intentionally limited.
So I think if you’re invested in a certain format, you should get an account on the platform that is designed for it. Lemmy for Reddit-style, Peertube for YouTube style, etc
