last year i discovered that law360.com required a "professional email address" to sign up for free, which is how i came to be the proud owner of fartbag.lol
@molly0xfff Board members asked me to have a look at marketing at their company. I was noticing a few things that could do with some work, and hated how accessing everthing required "work email addresses". Folks in marketing defended that as "needed for security". I settled that by signing up to their stuff from some of the worst sewer-pit Russian and other email hosts. 🙂

@molly0xfff Will there be swag? A lot of people here in Austin, TX take reusable bags to the grocery store. I bet a bag with "fartbag" written on the side would get some attention.
@molly0xfff I am the equal-parts-proud-and-ashamed owner of fisting.horse for the same reason. the domain was the result of trying to come up with the worst possible thing to have on a business card (without being outright offensive)
@molly0xfff any idea how they define such a thing? change.org do the same but in reverse… my personal email on my own domain isn't allowed to sign petitions as it's "not personal". They don't define that anywhere public and won't respond to me 🤷🏻
@bengo my willingness to take two seconds to add a DNS record is much higher than my willingness to set up and maintain a Mastodon instance. but you're absolutely right
@molly0xfff my understanding of the relevant DNS record is that to use it securely, it requires creating a cryptographic signature and keeping the corresponding private key safe.
@molly0xfff I am endlessly fascinated by how people are more willing to do insecure things than secure things.
If they had identical security properties but one takes two seconds and the other much more, sure, people should decide their will based on convenience, but that is not the case here.
Also to interop with fediverse you don’t have to run mastodon per se. There are many other implementations and specs authored by neutral parties. I’m not sure that is true for bsky.
