I'm feeling a Theme Day coming on! Since I've already started in on Magic, let's go for it. I'm gonna do a couple posts involving Magic today, but please share any Magical Moments you've had, a poem or bit of literature about Magic that you wrote or just enjoy, a toot you've written about Magic, a piece of art that makes you feel Magical, anything really, I love to see/hear/read your interpretations of things. I'm going to share a Magic Moment I had recently:

My husband and I had taken a short weekend trip recently, and honestly, it was kind of a mess, the rental wasn't as advertised, and our car got towed that morning, and we had to take an Uber and spent $300 getting it out of impound. When we got back, we just wanted a nap, I suggested we both take half an edible since we were both on edge, when we woke up it was moving into evening. I told my hubs to forget all the crappy stuff and let's just try to enjoy our evening. So, we had some pretty great sex, and then we wandered outside, and they had set up a Jazz Festival almost right outside the door. We listened to a couple great Jazz bands, danced a little, and watched the sun starting to set. Eventually, we could tell some rain was starting to blow in, so we walked around the corner to a cocktail bar. It was one of those with a big garage door in the front. So we sipped some cocktails and ate pizza, while watched the storm blow in. When the rain slowed down, we walked back to the apartment in a light drizzle, and generally felt better about life.

@RolloTreadway It's so true! It's this weird mix of math and magic. It's universal to every culture.

@RolloTreadway I read something recently that even Neanderthals created art, and the whimsical part of me likes to think that was a big part of why our brains developed how they did

Must explain Wolves and Coyote's... 🙂

RickiTarr,

@Ulzana @RolloTreadway Wolves do howl in harmony!

@RickiTarr @RolloTreadway

Yes I own a record of Wolves howling in harmony. Indeed, masters of music. 🙂

Camping out West, I also personally heard them. Doesn't do this argument of one or two anthropologists any good... 😟

@RickiTarr I'm interested in magic in fiction. The urban fantasy genre is getting pretty sophisticated. The shape and feel of the Lewis and Tolkien worlds are encompassing and the magical realism movement as well as the mythic structures of @neilhimself are transporting.

I try to keep open to some of these things when songwriting and I listen for them in songs others are writing.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@ccdudley85 @neilhimself I really enjoy the magical realism genre

@RickiTarr
Excepting the brutal food chain, all of nature seems magical to me. That a seed grows into a plant to bear edible fruit - containing the seed to grow and bear again - contains a form of magic. The process of water evaporation returning as rain and snow is magical, both in process and when experienced. Even tectonic movements creating continents, volcanoes, mountains, rocks and sand are magical. Birth / life / death of every creature creates the cycle of living magic.

We think science knows nature of magic, but there’s always more to the mystery, more to explore and explain. We’ll never reach its boundaries.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@cynblogger I love this

SophiaFree,

@RickiTarr Life very often feels magical to me, when I take a walk and see a cat. 🐈
It feels a bit like different kind of magic to me, when it's dark outside. Then it seems to be their time.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@SophiaFree Omg this is so funny, hubs and I play a game when we take walks in the evening called Night Cats, where we try to spot cats, it does feel magical to spot one

Holberg,
@Holberg@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr I love this. Every so often I experience an incredible sense of wellbeing—that all is right with the world—and it’s always momentary and random, often when I’m traveling, and usually connected to a convergence of sensory inputs.

Example. Found myself with a free afternoon in Paris 15-ish years ago. Hadn’t been to the Louvre in forever. Just wandering around and listening to Muse on my earbuds when one of these moments struck as I glanced at Diane de Poitiers as Diana.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@Holberg Wow that's gorgeous, I always tell my friends you have to put yourself in the position to remember why you want to live well, and it seems like you do a pretty good job at it.

Holberg,
@Holberg@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr I’ve lucked into A LOT and also don’t believe in an afterlife. So, I’ve always tried to make the most of here and now :)

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@Holberg That's my plan too, whether there is or there isn't, why waste time

Holberg,
@Holberg@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr Now, there’s a family motto.

piratero,

@RickiTarr @Holberg so pointy! And the deer, too!

SunMoonLodge,

@RickiTarr All I can share is that last night I had a dream about a story I will write. It's going to be a horror, fantasy called "The Magic Man." The Silent Depression forces a man out of his home, to live in his car, then the streets. On the streets if find a tribe of street dwellers who can wield all manner of forbidden, primal powers.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@SunMoonLodge That sounds so cool!

@RickiTarr We arrived in Blackpool in the evening for Illumination Tours, but because of a Madness concert that was literally on the tram tracks, nothing was running that night. SO we decided we would delay leaving Blackpool until late the next day. A cloudy evening had turned into a miserable cold drizzly day. While it didn't damper my spirit of adventure, it also didn't encourage much outdoor time, and Blackpool is.. well, we did get cold enough to visit the Wax Museum. Yeah.
Dinner was inside at a touristy place for mushy peas. As I was realizing that I really don't like my peas mushy, I looked out of the window to see a curl of pink/orange in the sky. I downed those peas and hurried out with my camera in hopes that I wasn't too late. What had been a day of heavy grey clouds was becoming one of the most stunning sunsets I have ever seen. It seemed to last for the longest time too, so many colors and patterns and light. So magical.

Pink , blue and yellow sunset behind and amusement pier with a ferris wheel.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@bbamok Holy cow, that is magnificent

bbamok,
@bbamok@c.im avatar

@RickiTarr It really really was. I have had many magical moments while out adventuring, but that day had the prettiest pictures.

@RickiTarr
A few weeks ago we went on a vacation that focused on a major botanical garden/conservatory for a few days. The last day of our trip was washed out by the remnants of a hurricane (as a tropical storm).

We found a neat 'gaming store about a 40 minute drive from the hotel and bought several board/dice games.

We sat in the hotel lobby, ordered a pizza, and played games while it poured rain outside.

It is nice to just let icky things that happen go and aim to enjoy what you can.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@snacktraces That sounds fantastic, I love how you turned it around

rothko,
@rothko@beige.party avatar

@snacktraces @RickiTarr when we were in costa rica, we stayed at this little hotel off the main road. we had been out seeing the sights one day, and as we came back, we saw that a gigantic tree had fallen right across the entrance road to the hotel. not only had it fallen, but it pulled down a power line and busted one of the concrete poles in half.

sooo... we went into the little cantina that was right nearby and just sat there having a beer, waiting until the workers had cleared up the road and got the power lines under control. took maybe an hour, maybe a little more, don't remember.

but it was like oh well, what else ya gonna do? might as well kick back and enjoy the afternoon.

@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@rothko @snacktraces Worst ways to spend time for sure

phoenixashes76,

@RickiTarr Deep in the SC mountains, my 4H group went trail riding. I was not good at horses and got matched with a horse that knew perfectly well that it could just amble any old place at any old speed and it would still get fed. The rest of the group was out of sight and earshot. I wasn’t too worried until we went off the path. Lost. Hot. Thirsty.

phoenixashes76,

@RickiTarr Then we come to a clearing where the kudzu has grown over the edges of the trees like walls and stretched over the empty space to make a ceiling. The sun shone through the leaves and made them glow. It was like being inside an emerald. A perfectly clear pool with water flowers. Tolkien would’ve eaten his heart out. Eventually I heard the rest of the group and we joined back up, the horse had cut across a trail loop. But I’ll never forget that place to my dying day

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@phoenixashes76 Wow, fabulous!

@RickiTarr Very brief, but (for me) profound magic moment. I was driving home from a doctor's appointment and glanced at a car also waiting at the light. It had a bumper sticker that read: "I hope the rest of your day is delightful". Just that, but somehow it made me feel happy and pleasantly hopeful for the rest of the day. It didn't turn out to be a delightful day, but it was certainly a very nice one.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@isotope239 It's the little things, isn't it!

isotope239,
@isotope239@mastodon.online avatar

@RickiTarr Yes, it is! When you think of little it takes to make most of us happy, at least for a bit, it's just a shame that we forget to do those little things more often for others.

@RickiTarr my most recent magical moment was on the 15th of March this year, my 51st birthday. I'd treated myself to a ticket to see Derren Brown's Showman in London. I'd got a cheap ticket up in the gods but was fortunate enough to be randomly chosen to assist him on stage. Meeting one of my all time heroes during one of his performances was mind blowing. As an added bonus, it was being filmed for Channel 4, so I now have a permanent record of my doubly magical night.

@RickiTarr We lost our first dog, a black lab named Mulberry, to lymphoma in early 2000. Later that spring, a volunteer Mulberry tree sprouted along our back fence.

Magic? Serendipity? I don't know. But I never saw another Mulberry tree in our neighborhood.

@RickiTarr A month or so ago I was sitting on the porch of a house I own but don't live in, all by myself on a sunny, calm day, and could hear buzzing.

The wall of creeping virginia was flowering - if you can call them flowers, they're little dull petal-less bumps - and the bees were absolutely LOVING it.

It wasn't honeybees, these were native bees of all sizes, and for like 15 minutes I stood there at the vines, surrounded by a cloud of busy bees. It was an ethereal experience.

@RickiTarr Some years ago, I lost one of my dogs to cancer. Two days after he died, I went out on my back deck and there was a perfect little bird’s nest - lined with white fur that came from my dog who died. I couldn’t believe it. If ever there was proof of magic in the world, that was it for me. I still have that little nest preserved.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr

Back in the 90s, coworker shared with me that her niece was critically ill with an unknown issue. At lunch that day, I decided to commune with the Goddess in this concern.

As I entered a meditative state, outside under the trees, and took this to Her, I heard, clear as a bell, a voice tell me that "The child will be well by the next full moon." That was roughly two weeks away. Diagnosis and resolution came, respectively, three and one days before that full moon.

🧙‍♀️

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@janetlogan Oh wow! That's great!

janetlogan,
@janetlogan@mas.to avatar

@RickiTarr

I was incredibly shocked. I'd had "feelings" before, and performed some Reiki healing, but that was the first, and only, time She spoke directly to me. You can imagine how the coworker felt when I told her of that experience. She already knew I was pagan / Goddess-worshiper / witch. And respected that as a valid belief system. Then when it came true? Wow.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@janetlogan I'm not particularly religious, but I take the power of belief seriously, and anyone who wants to send goodness and Light my way, I sincerely appreciate it, beautiful!

@RickiTarr I have a full-on Cassandra complex because sometimes I see, feel, or think things that are vivid and rattle about in my head. These things vary from something I apparently know will come to pass, or that a person needs to hear. Often, they are warnings. Most people discount my premonitions, and I get why. It's unusual and unsettling for many. I don't even know why or how it happens.

But I definitely leveraged the talent to read tarot.

Early last year, after realizing our savings had done very well during lockdowns, we started exploring our options to buy a home.
We found a nearby city which was in our price range.
Our agent said that our first day looking would be info gathering and we wouldn't find what we wanted that week..
At the second house we visited, we got out and our jaws dropped, like sky opening up angels singing. It was perfect for us. Room for us, my darkroom, wife's crafts, etc.
Put in the offer then and there.
