@dschwarz @inquiline sure "code of conduct" sounds like the kind of rule that needs to be enforced with handcuffs and batons and imprisonment.

An M Type mechanical keyboard made for IBM by Lexmark in 1994.

Can you imagine if the automobile had never been invented and that horses remained the norm?

I mean, with the current population, the infrastructure for picking up horse shit alone would have to be mind boggling.

derekdahlsad,
@derekdahlsad@mastodon.social avatar

@Mrfunkedude if you read old newspapers, the number of people getting severely injured or killed by horses was a pretty high number. Falling off, getting dragged to death; your car doesn't kick you in the face when it's in a bad mood.

On the other hand, the number of stories about getting in your wagon drunk, telling the horse to giddyapp, and waking up parked in your own yard the next morning was a counterpoint I suppose

@qurlyjoe that's my favorite coin design, it's like a little work of art. But a $2.50, that must be tiny! I've held a $5 version and that was super small.

What are your true opinions and thoughts on marriage?

Just for fun, this is a photo from my wedding day (ignore the reflection of my phone lol) I was all of 21.

derekdahlsad,
@derekdahlsad@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr first marriage went horrible, was a single dad for 8 years, met my wife online (not a dating site, we were writers on the same website), her recently divorced from a bad marriage with two kids, we were together for fun but decided to move in together, decided to get married to make us and our kids one legal family, we marvel it's been 20 years and this is the path we took. Being married feels more like a sidethought, we're equal partners who like each other and have sex, it's great!

derekdahlsad,
@derekdahlsad@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr oh, thoughts on marriage: both of our first marriages felt needed, required, we had to marry in order to make it work, which did not go as planned. We married each other because it was a technical reason, we were already committed and planning on being together, so I suppose the commitment comes first, then marriage. Marriage doesn't make commitment.

Duuuuuude.

So, if you've ever watched me write with a pencil, I rotate the pencil a quarter turn after every word - this is a throwback to drafting class where we learned that kept lines consistent, otherwise you wear down one side of the lead and lines get wider. This pencil does it automatically, every time you lift the pencil, so every letter, it rotates a tiny bit so you're always using the sharp point of the lead.

Closeup of the kuru toga mechanism in this mechanical pencil, which rotates the lead each time the pencil is lifted, so the lead wears evenly and lines are consistent.

I'm feeling a Theme Day coming on! Since I've already started in on Magic, let's go for it. I'm gonna do a couple posts involving Magic today, but please share any Magical Moments you've had, a poem or bit of literature about Magic that you wrote or just enjoy, a toot you've written about Magic, a piece of art that makes you feel Magical, anything really, I love to see/hear/read your interpretations of things. I'm going to share a Magic Moment I had recently:

My husband and I had taken a short weekend trip recently, and honestly, it was kind of a mess, the rental wasn't as advertised, and our car got towed that morning, and we had to take an Uber and spent $300 getting it out of impound. When we got back, we just wanted a nap, I suggested we both take half an edible since we were both on edge, when we woke up it was moving into evening. I told my hubs to forget all the crappy stuff and let's just try to enjoy our evening. So, we had some pretty great sex, and then we wandered outside, and they had set up a Jazz Festival almost right outside the door. We listened to a couple great Jazz bands, danced a little, and watched the sun starting to set. Eventually, we could tell some rain was starting to blow in, so we walked around the corner to a cocktail bar. It was one of those with a big garage door in the front. So we sipped some cocktails and ate pizza, while watched the storm blow in. When the rain slowed down, we walked back to the apartment in a light drizzle, and generally felt better about life.

derekdahlsad,
@derekdahlsad@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr A month or so ago I was sitting on the porch of a house I own but don't live in, all by myself on a sunny, calm day, and could hear buzzing.

The wall of creeping virginia was flowering - if you can call them flowers, they're little dull petal-less bumps - and the bees were absolutely LOVING it.

It wasn't honeybees, these were native bees of all sizes, and for like 15 minutes I stood there at the vines, surrounded by a cloud of busy bees. It was an ethereal experience.

WHAT is going on with this movie??? (Description captured from Criterion)

First I see it’s Willem Dafoe and Chris Walken 🤔… then it’s a William Gibson story adapted by Abel Ferrara 😳… and then it features an appearance by YOSHITAKA AMANO???

Obviously i don’t know enough cinephiles, or somebody would have told me about this.

derekdahlsad,

@miksimum it's not as good as the description makes it sound, that's probably why you haven't heard of it.
