People on Bluesky have been bulk posting invite codes on "X," apparently trying to boost their follower numbers to more Twitter-like levels, but the codes have been snatched up by bots and now there's an influx of trolls and Neo-Nazi accounts. 🙄
That is to say, I think a bunch of people who are used to being "a big deal" on Twitter are frustrated by Bluesky's perpetual closed beta. And I get it sucks starting over on a new site. But I don't think porting over the worst parts of the Twitter experience is what anyone had in mind.
@gwynnion Before I got onto Mastodon, I was fairly convinced by various media stories that it was "too difficult." I mean, more difficult than, what, falling out of bed? Sure. But anyone who can sign up for a Gmail account can figure out Mastodon.

@Gargron@gwynnion I really think it might have been the official app, but I can't say for certain, and I don't want to lead you astray.
What I remember is that although it supported multiple accounts, it had trouble switching from one to another. Two accounts it could manage; when I added a third, it would crash every time I tried to switch. It was a Moto G4 Play; don't remember which Android OS.

Growth at any cost is the reason many sites have become shit. Quality of growth absolutely matters.
@gwynnion Bluesky is still run by a billionaire in league with the Muskrat. Why would anyone go there? Sure, maybe the tech is good, Twitter actually was pretty special, but it was easily corrupted and sold off to a dangerous lunatic.
People don’t care. Seriously. People go where people are (WhatsApp!). And they prefer something familiar.
Lots of politicians, journalists here in Germany are still on Xitter. Because of “relevance” and reach. In the last weeks quite some of them moved to BlueSky. Because a) they had a “I’ll invite you” train going on (so lots of people of their bubble are there) and b) it looks and feels like Twitter.
They don’t care about Musk or Dorsey at all. Just “relevance” and reach.

I understand. Twitter was fun. I deleted my account and I am not going to Bluesky because I do not trust that even though I deleted my account on Twitter that it is actually deleted and Musk won't sell my data to Russia or China or some other dangerous fascist nation. Who knew having all that data would enable them to control and manipulate the narratives of conflicts and control elections. Bluesky's privacy policy is horrific. Maybe you haven't read it.
@zachvat@gwynnion I think the invite system is / was a good call because that way, if somenoe invites you, some of your friends will already be there. I assume it also minimised the need for moderation at first.
