If you could pause body aging, what age would you have paused at, and why?

joninalbany,
@joninalbany@bluelupine.social avatar

@RickiTarr I'm thinking around 23. Was living with my now wife, we were both young, fit, no aches, tons of sex, and you could get hammered any night and be fine at 7:30 in the morning.

memphismary,
@memphismary@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr 30-32. good fitness 😊

@LouisIngenthron@qoto.org avatar

@RickiTarr Assuming the mind aged normally, I can't imagine why anyone would ever say a number higher than 25.

CindySue,
@CindySue@bookstodon.com avatar

@RickiTarr 25 for sure.

jared,
@jared@spookykitties.com avatar

@RickiTarr this is a tough one. 12 is probably my peak physical condition, as that is right before my lung health took its planned nose dive of a cliff. If this includes the brain, then whatever my age last week would be best

JaneDoeTheFirst,
@JaneDoeTheFirst@zeroes.ca avatar

@RickiTarr

I have a vivid memory frozen in time of age 19 walking out the door into the summer sunshine, the breeze wafting about and lifting my hair. I felt lighter than air.

Everything worked. No pain, no aches, full of vigour and joie de vivre.

So, yeah, 19.

not2b,
@not2b@sfba.social avatar

@RickiTarr 40s, I guess. Wasn't til then that I stopped caring much about approval, can still be in great shape at that age, and in our culture it seems that age for a man gets the most respect.

lydialurch,
@lydialurch@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr 33. I was fit, I had unlimited energy, and I'd never been seriously ill.

izzyamar,
@izzyamar@twit.social avatar

@RickiTarr I seem to remember being far less achey at 28, so that’s my answer 😊

piratero,

@RickiTarr I’m thinking you mean physical age and not emotional age.

I’d probably hang in my early 20’s.

I’d still be emotionally 10 ;) much like now, really!

dabertime,
@dabertime@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr In a sense, I believe we are still all of the ages we have been.
35 was the beginning of an excellent time for me on many levels, so I still try to tap into that age mindset when it's suited.

qurlyjoe,
@qurlyjoe@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr
For me, I vote for 29, because at that age I was finally reasonably healthy for the first time since I was 13. A few ups and downs and twists and turns since then, but more or less healthy.

paul_ipv6,

@RickiTarr

40

still in quite good shape considering but finally able to understand why you have to take care of the body.

besides, real youth feels like cheating. :)

FortuitousMess,
@FortuitousMess@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@RickiTarr I used to think 32 was the perfect age… but now I'm pretty happy at 43 🤷🏻‍♀️
Maybe pause now before I really start to feel my age lol

duncantherowe,
@duncantherowe@social.seattle.wa.us avatar

@RickiTarr 40. Everything after 45 is harder.

CStamp,
@CStamp@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr Mentally, I'm still 21, because I felt free for the first time and everything was exciting, full of possibilities, so I'm effectively paused at that but with more experience. I'm lucky to not have health issues to impact my abilities. I climbed a steep hill at 40 and passed a group of high school boys who were huffing and puffing and complaining about not being able to make the top.

IcooIey,
@IcooIey@mastodon.green avatar

@RickiTarr I think ideal would be to be a ten year old boy. They seem to be as a group so carefree, curious and joyful.

22-24 were pretty great. But largely because confidence was high and so was ignorance about how hard life can be.

@IcooIey @RickiTarr

Those years were pretty good. Damned near indestructible, and before the hormones showed up and had me raging.

Subumbral,
@Subumbral@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@RickiTarr 17, because it was fantastic. Physically, anyway.

Subumbral,
@Subumbral@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@RickiTarr Whatever age this was was pretty good, too, before all the gangly awkwardness began 😆

DemocracySpot,
@DemocracySpot@mstdn.social avatar

@Subumbral @RickiTarr

Wanna share more about this picture, Mike?

Subumbral,
@Subumbral@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@DemocracySpot @RickiTarr My aunt took me to the LA arboretum sometimes, and they had peacocks. I don't remember much about that particular day. I was all tanned and fit from playing on Muscle Beach every day, ropes, swings, ocean waves, hair was always blond by the end of summer, it was a good time

DemocracySpot,
@DemocracySpot@mstdn.social avatar

@Subumbral @RickiTarr

Not everyone gets to feed a peacock. Cool. Didn't you live at Venice Beach?

MikeImBack,
@MikeImBack@disabled.social avatar

@RickiTarr 33. The last age I was before my life changing work injury, I was at the height of my strength, flexibility, immune system, and I was entering a psychological golden age. I miss my strength and pain free days a lot

mike,
@mike@thecanadian.social avatar

@RickiTarr 28, everything seemed optimal.

25 to 30. Brain is developed, body can do many things and feel good.

@RickiTarr 38, nobody respects men until they start going a little silverback.

muzzle,
@muzzle@freeradical.zone avatar

@WagesOf @RickiTarr then do a PhD. I had a few gray strains at 28, and that's a great age to stop aging :|

courtcan,
@courtcan@mastodon.social avatar

@muzzle @WagesOf @RickiTarr Lol, I had my first silvers at 19.

Snowshadow,
@Snowshadow@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr 30....because there were less aches and pains...and I was stronger.

benroyce,
@benroyce@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr

focusing on peak cognitive performance, i thought it was age 25. but looking it up it's apparently age 50 for what seems to be the most important factors

so now i'm confused and i don't know what age is best to pause body aging

my confusion might be my cognitive decline speaking...

jhavok,
@jhavok@mastodon.social avatar

@benroyce @RickiTarr I believe my schoolmates and I were at our intellectual peak around 12, before phberty hit. Testosterone is brain poison. Granted, we were mostly in the near-prodigy category.

MishaVanMollusq,
@MishaVanMollusq@sfba.social avatar

@RickiTarr Do you make up these questions on the spot or are they written down for you ?

RickiTarr,

@MishaVanMollusq Just whatever I'm thinking about that day

MishaVanMollusq,
@MishaVanMollusq@sfba.social avatar

@RickiTarr @MishaVanMollusq cumulatively it feels like an elongated Voight Kampf
