The family is in food poverty (reason unspecified) and the kids rely on snacks provided at the school, may not be getting regular feeds of any kind at home
@Hedgewizard@Saltssaltgirl Ahh got it, that sucks. We don't really have a system of giving out snacks in school so that was where my knowledge was missing. This is pretty sad that children don't really look forward to breaks because of their lives at home. I pray that things get better for them.
@Saltssaltgirl My late sister in law worked in a school system in Ohio where a fair number of kids were food insecure. Before weekends and school vacations school staff filled backpacks with food that kids took home. It was conducted discreetly, so kids didn't hesitate to accept help.

@Saltssaltgirl I volunteer at a food pantry. In the two years I've been there the number of clients has increased by 50%. Most are families.The need is great. 😔

I am fortunate enough that my kid takes school lunch for granted and complains she doesn't like it - a privilege every 13 yo should have. Thank you for being there for kids who need that lunch more than us.
