🆕 blog post -- Here comes the Asus Chromebook CM30 Detachable ChromeOS tablet

Following up on its tablet from 2021, the CM30 was introduced as a new model. This slate with detachable keyboard is a successor to the Asus Chromebook CM3, which debuted at $329.99. Pricing and availability is still unknown although January’s Consumer Electronics Show is a good candidate for that information.

Anyone know why a doesn't work while the battery is in?

I have a Chromebook that wasn't working so I took the battery out to take a look and tested the system with the charger in and no battery and it boots. If I put the battery in then it doesn't, nor does the battery charge.

Anybody here on the have recommendations on how to “resuscitate” an ? It still works, but obviously unupgradable (software-wise) by official means, and slow as molasses. I understand that the the device is actually under-specced in terms of internal storage speed and RAM amount, but maybe knows about some lightweight option that would allow it to give its best?
Help me avoid some more .

I wish people would stop giving console gaming the cultural capital that it has.

These are proprietary locked down machines that you can’t upgrade, nor can you mod them without running afoul of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

@atomicpoet “Just get a #NUC

Oops, #Intel kicked those over to #ASUS: https://www.intc.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/1634/intel-and-asus-agree-to-term-sheet-to-take-intel-nuc

The only listed available gaming-oriented NUC is a kit for which the customer needs to source memory, storage, and a graphics card separately. And where can they buy it? “Request a quote." https://www.asus.com/displays-desktops/nucs/nuc-kits/nuc-13-extreme-kit/

Then you moved the goalposts from a self-contained appliance to your evergreen tower.

It's OK to not be the target audience for something without condemnation.

super special shout out to ASUStek who have been phoning it in lately - for this amazingly shoddy "locking mechanism" on their "super leet ROG STRIX" motherboard GPU slot. HOURS wasted last weekend.

New m.2 drive? OK.. remove GPU, but you can't anymore without removing the CPU, which means taking out the motherboard, finding the "good" thermal compound, and it's a whole ass THING now.

Sure, it's "my fault" for having "a large CPU cooler"... 🙄

THANK YOU ASUS, you absolute asus-hats

clearance is tight here. Sure that's partially on me for having a gigantic air cooler, but you'd think the release mechanism wouldn't crumple..

I've been very happy with my 9. The 10 fixes my only real complaint about it, namely the lack of wireless charging. If I were buying a new phone today, the Zenfone 10 is what I would buy.

My work phone is still a Samsung on Verizon, but this past year, I moved to and bought an , breaking a long Samsung streak. I felt like with both Samsung and Verizon, I kept paying more for less. I went with the ASUS not so much for the size, but the little things like having a real headphone jack and great battery life. The camera might not be able to take fake moon pictures with AI, but it gets the job done just fine.
