Podcasting Hall of Fame inductee and author of Podcasting for Dummies Evo Terra joins us to celebrate the second anniversary of The First Episode Of. "That's a handsome knife. Antler handle. Someone brought down a deer for that. You use arrows and guns and sometimes even your bare hands to take prey like that. But no matter what you use, it's always bloody in the end, isn't it?"
NEW TODAY! Robin Johnson talks about his sci-fi comedy Untrue Stories, writing parody fiction, the public feud between George Orwell and H.G. Wells, letting the characters write themselves, and whether technology will save us in the future.
Working on sound design for The Love Talker today, and I got a new instrument from Pianobook: "Poseidon's Pull." It's this amazing sample of the ocean, the creaking of ship's ropes, more. I added a little pad and some spoken words which are from Laurie Anderson by way of Shakespeare, The Book of Job, and Herman Melville.
Think of it as a teaser for a non-existent audio drama.
In a world veiled in post-noctum mysteries, tales of eerie cities and forsaken towns abound. Among them is the urban legend of the Lost Town of Quietville. Travelers, en route to their destinations, often find themselves on winding backroads that lead to this peculiar hamlet. Eyewitnesses recount homes adorned with bizarre symbols, and behind every window, there's a figure with a grotesque hand over their mouth. As if entranced, they continuously sketch these uncanny symbols onto fogged windows, never pausing. Those bold enough to attempt entry assert that the houses lack doors and the windows are unbreakable. Within the town, voices are inexplicably subdued, turning any spoken words into mere whispers. When travelers finally depart from Quietville, they can never locate it again. Some believe that discovering Quietville is a curse; upon death, they will become another silent inhabitant of the town.
The "Underfather" is a cryptic entity linked to the rumored surge of mutations following the Great Darkness. While popular belief holds that these mutated individuals were either exterminated or subjected to experiments, alternative theories suggest they were summoned underground. Many of these mutated beings have christened this entity as the "Underfather." Its motives remain an enigma, yet some theorize that it shares a connection with Aghastial, the Angel of Deformity. Certain texts portray the Underfather as Aghastial's progeny, charged with guiding her offspring to the earth's depths for sanctuary. Despite these speculations, the true intentions of the Underfather remain elusive.

I wonder if the whole #AI thing will finally convince artists that modern #copyright regime was never meant to protect them.
It was meant to protect the middlemen. The Amazons, the Spotifies, the Sonys, the Disneys. The film studios, the publishing houses.
Now the middlemen figured out they own basically all of art, and that they can just train a computer on that, to replace artists with a piece of software.
And then stop paying artists even the pittance they were being paid so far.
@rysiek If you consider Audiobook Narrators to be artists and audiobooks to be art (I do, honestly, on both counts), then here is a link to my catalogue of high heat audiobooks:
There's plenty of room for more newsletters for fans of #AudioFiction. I made the one I thought was missing (highlighting completed shows/season finales), but there are plenty more opportunities. Some things I've thought of:
• A rinse-and-repeat of https://TheEnd.fyi, but featuring shows produced in different languages other than English. (So one for French, Spanish, Thai... whatever)
• One for fans of RPG-based shows
• One that highlighted shows of a specific style. Like start with an "archivist" show like Magnus, then list out all (?) the shows that use that similar style, with an exploration of the style and why it works.
• Something like Imaginary Worlds, but highlighting audiofiction
... that's what's on top of my head. Love to see more!
Your Horror Show from Ryan Joseph Murphy is off to a pretty kick ass start. If you're feeling like some good, high quality, anthology horror, look no further.
I haven't been promoting this a ton, but I just finished releasing the second Unwanted Places story (10 parts!) on patreon.com/grinnermedia. It's a story about a family broken by a song with power beyond human comprehention set in The Storage Papers universe.
If you're looking for an audiobook to enjoy with your cats, or just to play for them, the book in question is "The Trouble With Angels", a comedy romance by Maggie Adams. 😹 💞
Shortly after the Great Darkness of 1999, a series of bizarre objects, monuments, and places were discovered, known as obscura. One of the most peculiar among these is the Skyrail. The Skyrail is a massive, gothic-style roller coaster that stretches across the entire country. Its track traverses through the ruins of skyscrapers, deep underground caves, soars thousands of feet up into the sky, and reaches other difficult-to-access locations. There have been some attempts to dismantle it, but supporters of the Nocturnalist movement have fervently lobbied to keep it intact. Infamously, one individual, known as Janus the Two-Faced Psychopath, attempted to ride this monstrous roller coaster. During his daring escapade on the behemoth thrill ride, he wore the demeanor of a recluse who had never before ventured outside his home.
