Happy Birdathon Weekend from this lovely Rose-Breasted Grosbeak.

Sora-ing high … my husband @CTGT and I were thrilled to add a lifer to our list this weekend, an adult Sora and three of her adorable fluffy black chicks. Tiny and skulky, she was fleet of foot - not hard with those big green puppies - in this shallow marshy pond, especially chasing off an encroaching American Robin that was also foraging for worms. Cropped photo collage in the comments if you’re interested in a closer look.

Sure that's a house finch in the front, but don't forget the incoming Cardinal Picture of the Day!

A Brown Thrasher with some kind of prey in its bill. This is from April 2022 in NC. They are ground-loving birds, but they regularly sing from the tippy top of tall trees in the spring.

The next image I will post is a Willow Warbler that i saw about 60 seconds later.

These 2 birds are often confused for each other.

A male summer tanager has been coming to the jelly feeder for a few weeks. I didn't think he would stay because I didn't see any female summer tanagers. But today, for the first time, I saw her at the feeder. Perhaps there is hope that they will stay after all and I will get to see baby tanagers.

Male summer tanager eating jelly. He is a medium sized songbird, all coral red with slightly darker wings.

Went somewhere new today and saw something new. Even though the bird was miles off in the distance, thought I'd post an image all the same.

Hobby

From RSPB: "Hobby Falcons are about the size of a Kestrel with pointed wings, looking a bit like a giant swift. They are known for their dashing flight and will chase large insects and small birds like swallows and martins.
