"Christian nationalism is a serious threat to democracy, because it is premised on the supremacy of Christianity and rejects the democratic values of freedom and equality for all."
The #Brevard#schoolBoard is choosing to follow badly worded laws, written vaguely on purpose, massive in scope, to follow a #ChristianNationalist agenda to #indoctrinate#students, while ignoring that these same laws would ban virtually every book from our classrooms and libraries.
Imagine the manufactured rage of Christians if Americans from another faith tradition did the same thing as these out and proud Christian Nationalists.
It is past time for an unambiguous Constitutional Amendment Barring Laws that Are Implicitly or Explicitly Based on Faith Traditions, which includes any quasi-religious, pseudo-scientific beliefs regarding economics, race, gender, sexuality.
There is something seriously wrong with #Christofascists, like #MikeHuckabee. It's a rot that's based deep in their #Christian genes. It's a lack of #humanity and decency that they justify with performative piety. And it also reflects a sadistic, corrupt worldview in which education is for suckers, and those who got saddled with unpayable loans deserve their suffering.
“[...] in all cases, anti-abortion movements exhibit an incremental strategy: they pursue a particular legal change, but, once they obtain it, the conflict is not settled. On the contrary, each victory galvanizes pro-life activists to raise the threshold and engage in new battles.”
When the toxicity of #Fascist#ChristianNationalism causes strangers to respond to my #Episcopalian belief/praxis with unfettered contempt,
I feel sad & angry that hateful #MAGAts are demolishing an alliance that empowered #Abolition#CivilRights#PeaceNotWar
in times past
I would prefer that strangers unable to see any person of faith as an ally or intelligent, feeling human being just mute me now, ok?
On C-SPAN Washington Journal this morning, Mark David Hall, an apologist for Christian nationalism, author of "Who's Afraid of Christian Nationalism". Regent University is a Christian institution, founded by Pat Robertson. Following Hall, a segment discussing separation of church and state with Rob Boston, of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. #cspanwj#politics#USpolitics#Christiannationalism
Taking essential #healthcare away from needy children on #Easter is incredibly fucked up. These #Republicans continue to claim exclusive ownership of #Christianity while behaving in a way that would have infuriated their #messiah. They're literally acting directly contrary to the foundational teachings of the man they claim to revere and follow.
#TFG is "impune". He/ #Project2025 promise Christian Nationalists (& others) power.
"Trump’s announcement: now peddling something called the “God Bless the USA Bible” drew outrage from some religious figures, but one group that’s been conspicuously quiet about it lately is evangelical leaders. He's begun making subtle promises to them that we absolutely must not ignore. There're unsettling new ways he's signaling a 2nd term shaped around ideals of #ChristianNationalism. https://newrepublic.com/article/180287/trumps-weird-usa-bible-scam-takes-dark-unsettling-turn
Another "good" #Christian who doesn't understand why her #bigotry and #hatred is being treated like bigotry and hatred. I mean, all she wanted to do was erase the #LGBTQ community, and eliminate the #PrideMonth displays in the #Starbucks store she was recently hired at. Just think of the children! Why didn't the store just acquiesce to her irrational and discriminatory demands? Don't they know she's a Christian?
"As a devout #Christian, George believes every human life has value. As such, George cannot provide or facilitate the use of any potential #abortion-causing drugs."
Someone needs to explain to George and his lawyer that the "#PlanB" #emergencyContraceptive DOES NOT CAUSE ABORTIONS! It PREVENTS a #pregnancy from occurring. They keep telling this lie, even in the face of their losing court rulings.
This #fascistic pig is pledging to rip up the #Constitution, and impose some sort of religious test for #immigrants. This is such a brazen violation of the plain text of the Constitution that I don't think it's more than absurd pandering to his #Christofascist base, but the threat should compel everyone to stand in defense of the nation, and #VoteBlue like our future depends on it.
"While Jesus hangs on the cross the Roman soldiers sit beneath him, casting lots for his clothes. Even amid the harrowing violence of the crucifixion, this—for me—is one of the most devastating parts of the story. It’s the casualness of the cruelty; little games to divvy up the belongings of a man who’s still gasping for air just above their shoulders. This is what empire does…."
"This Holy Week, Donald Trump made headlines selling $60 Bibles to fund his mountain of legal fees—Christian Nationalism selling off Christianity’s clothes while the faith they’re killing still hangs upon the cross. The twice-impeached, white supremacy spouting, serial raping, grifter-in-chief is a fitting stand-in for the Roman soldiers in our Good Friday story. His entire life embodies the savagery of the American imperial project."
#LeeGreenwood perfectly encapsulates everything that is wrong with #ChristianNationalism. First, he refers to #Trump as a #Christian, which is historically, and objectively untrue. Then, he insists that every American needs a #Bible. Not every Christian American—every American. This edict is a slap in the face to all the non-Christians in America who definitely don't need a Bible. In Greenwood's mind, if you're not Christian, you're not an American.
"An urgent question for the judiciary is how a sham case [the mifepristone case] made it to the Supreme Court’s docket. The answer is that it did so because the Supreme Court continues to coddle, humor, and occasionally reward a cohort of reactionary Federalist Society judges."
“Today, Trump began to hawk Bibles for $59.99, plus shipping and handling, with a video message saying ‘Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country, and I truly believe we need to bring them back…. That’s why our country’s going haywire—we’ve lost religion in our country.’”
Disinformation-peddling #Republicans continue to spread nonsensical racist conspiracy theories to inflame their ignorant voters.
Michigan #GOP State Rep. and #ElectionDenier Matt Maddock saw the #Gonzaga men's basketball team arriving at Detroit's airport and immediately tweeted out false claims that the team buses were actually carrying "illegal invaders."
