I regularly see these targeted cannabis scare articles, and I know that's the intention because for one thing they're devoid of context.

It's OK, to mention research suggests cannabis consumption can potentially have epigenetic impact, so long as it's made clear how we've long known, typical levels alcohol and tobacco use can also cause epigenetic changes that affect gene expression, both transient and-or permanent, in addition to the more obvious health problems associated with their use and abuse.

These facts are never presented or represented in a manner gives us a comparison of it's potential relative to these other substances.

I'm not a consumer, but the intellectual dishonesty of this pervasive campaign of disinformation is offensive.

I think I'll cool down by reading one of my favorite science news sources, the Nature Briefing...oh, what's this in my inbox? Transphobia? Ugh.

The Cass Report, which was filled with misrepresentation and misinformation is being treated as the latest science news by Nature apparently. This is intensely disappointing and disturbing. The journalistic arm of a major academic science journal hasn't applied basic journalistic standards to something that will be used to take away life-saving care from trans youth.

I've emailed them to let them know how fucked this is and that I will unsubscribe if they don't publish a retraction. Can't really trust any of their other reporting now, knowing the lack of critical thinking that had to happen to publish that.

Thanks. I went through Erin's report, then studied Hilary Cass โ€œFinal Report,โ€ and it appears to me to be a model of gaslighting in scientific drag.

I could be wrong, but is there an extraordinary preference in the UK for prescribing young children feminizing or masculinizing HRT over puberty blockers? The report implies that is the case.

@JoscelynTransient I'm pointing out that the study inserts that young children are being prescribed feminizing or masculinizing hormones at a medically questionable age.

That is rarely the case in US medicine, where puberty blockers with the informed consent of parents are the norm.

I would add that far from the ease of access to feminizing and masculinizing HRT as claimed in the US media, it is still difficult for many Trans Americans to find safe, affordable medical transition with the aid of HRT.

The narrative framing the presumed norms of Trans healthcare are centered on the white trans experience and do not remotely reflect that of "non-whites".

Just like abortion, the issue wasn't ripe for exploitation until it could be portrayed as a threat to the white patriarchal feminine ideal that has to be defended by any means necessary.

Nobody gave or gives a dame about cis or trans BIPOC folk, which is why you predominately both sides of the trans children debate in the media feature white families and white children.
