Hyperincarceration

"First Nations people in Australia are the most imprisoned people in the world."

"Hyperincarceration of First Peoples is a common feature of former British settler colonies such as Canada, the United States and New Zealand. This shared experience shows us First Peoples are not the problem. We should instead be paying attention to the colonial motivation for incarcerating First Peoples."

And when you attempt to log in, it says you have used an invalid username or password.

“Plongée en contre plongée”

This photo title is a play on words in French, where « plongée » means “dive” and « contre-plongée » means “low-angle shot”.

This screenshot I took quickly in Elite Dangerous ended up looking a lot more ominous than I had intended or imagined 😅

@bitflipped two of my favorite screenshots that I've used as my desktop backgrounds for aaaages (from an expedition I was doing with a few other people), this was on the horizons launch day in 2015. You can get such cool shots in elite.

(the expedition was to ritualistically feed ourselves to the black hole, hence the cheap ships, but it ended in a bust, there's an invisible wall that prevented you, your ship just stops :/ )

Once I fixed the Frontier tech’s rookie mistake - he plugged the WAN line into the 1gb port - it’s screaming fast.

Replaced the supplied Amazon eero router with a TP-Link 2.5gb router, plugged in a new 2.5gb switch, and reconnected the eero to THAT, it still screams and the rest of the wired network gets 2.5gb speed, too, where the device supports it.

It shouldn’t be this hard,

In other news, I see seems to have removed all marketing material from their Fiber Internet. I know they were continuing to license that from , so I am guessing they no longer felt the price was worth it.

Here’s my last response from the customer service rep. Doesn’t this just sound a bit off? “You can now have the pleasure of ending our conversation.”?

New study: "Indian researchers paid an estimated 17 million USD as in 2020. Furthermore, the study's findings reveal that 81% of the APC goes to commercial publishers, viz. , , , and Media."
https://www.currentscience.ac.in/data/forthcoming/765.pdf

PS: As far as I can tell, the authors didn't distinguish paid by authors out of pocket from APCs paid by their employers or funders. The $17m is the total from all sources. I'd love to see a breakdown.

My is majestic AF. Sure, there are a few minor design flaws, like the fact that I need ~2 mins from entering the ship to sitting in the pilot chair, or that I laughed so hard at Sarah falling down the ladder from the cockpit to the cargo hold that I stumbled and fell down the six stories myself, breaking a leg — but it's funny AF to me.

I've reconfigured her a bit after taking those screenshots, she looks even more like a thoroughly stupid mecha giraffe/duck hybrid now

Call me a conspiratorialist if you must. But when CEOs get on earnings calls and brag about how covid, war, and scare-stories about let them hike their prices and rake in never-before-seen profit margins, I think it's reasonable to blame inflation on greed, not on workers getting a couple of relief checks during the lockdown.

Think of how the telcos and cable companies divided up America like the Pope dividing up the "New World" into non-overlapping, non-competing exclusive territories. The less they had to compete with one another, the less they had to spend on their infrastructure. That's how you get companies like , who draped their lines over shrubs or let them drag on the ground:
