Hallo Fediverse!

Insbesondere Friendica, Firefish und v.a.

Wenn Ihr also Anregungen oder Ergänzungen habt, gerne her damit! Danke!

Hello again , I may need your . So, here's a list of the Fediverse software I'm about to make temporary accounts for to test all the features and differences:

So, did I miss anything noteworthy? Does anyone have any tips or recommendations before I choose a server for any one of these? I'll probably be going for the most popular server on each for improved federation and maintenance.

Note: I'm using right now and Misskey forks are already overrepresented, so that's why it's not included.

Anyone know how to fix adding a website to your Home Screen on iOS then making you re login to that site every time instead of saving it? I think I had this problem with a Misskey instance before and I think I solved it but I forget how or if I really did lol. Currently happening with a glitch soc instance.

There's an alternative version of Mastodon called "Mastodon Glitch Edition" (aka "glitch-soc" or just "Glitch"). Glitch is totally compatible with normal Mastodon, but adds experimental new features.

For example, Glitch instances let the admin alter the character limit, allow local posting, text formatting and lots of other stuff.

Many features in Glitch have eventually made their way into normal Mastodon after proving themselves stable and useful.

You can find out more at:

https://glitch-soc.github.io/docs/

If you run your own Mastodon instance you can switch to Glitch, and switch back again if you don't like it.

(You may be wondering how this post is so long? It's because FediTips is on an instance that uses Glitch, and the instance character limit has been extended to 1000.)

I feel like this (?) gets worse with every release. I really wish @Mastodon or would add a setting to disable "virtual scrolling" or wherever is causing this until it's fixed.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be related to long-toot collapsing. I've only noticed it on mobile so far. FWIW my default safari zoom is 75%.

I’ve seen a couple of tech.lgbt users post that is now supported thanks to but I tried the basics for bold & italics & neither were recognised. Any magic incantation required on that front?

Has anyone had any experience moving from mastodon/mastodon to glitch-soc/mastodon? I'm looking to do this as they document changes better, and the tweaks they have made allow for me to keep my instance up-to-date with my own tweaks and customization.

It looks straightforward, but since I have modified mastodon/mastodon, I want to be sure I move and make the same changes to my glitch-soc/mastodon fork as well.

** GlitchSoc new features on tech.lgbt ** Oooo ... nice to see that we have a couple of useful new features: any weird looking posts in the next week may be me playing around with:

Also I see GlitchSoc has:

  • Local-server only posts

Comment: I do still love [ for it's migration of posting history and 'Antennae', but for now at least have realised I'll wait until mobile :android: App supports it fully - which is supposed to be coming. Fedilab is so feature-rich ...]

Does anyone know if you compose a toot on #Tusky using a #GlitchSoc #Mastodon account will it give you the drop down options for plain text, markdown and HTML ? Or is that web only ?

I spent some time tonight getting "mastodon-bird-ui" which is self-described as "🐘🐦 Mastodon web UI, but strongly inspired by Twitter" created by @rolle integrated nicely into my server (https://expressional.social/) as a "flavour" 😍

Now it's more prominently featured in the profile UI, further nudging folks towards it over the vanilla experience ✌️

You can grab Bird UI for your own server here: https://github.com/ronilaukkarinen/mastodon-bird-ui

One distinctive feature of the newly-deployed glitch-soc software in @tech.lgbt now is the little "chevron" double up-arrows in the top rhs corner of each toot in the [ anyway] to collapse or expand the toot. So far i've been unable to grasp a consistent pattern of behaviour for these. Some toots are collapsed, some are expanded by default. I wonder why the inconsistency? Also, afaik there's no option for us in the Preferences area to set them to be collapsed or expanded by default. 🤷‍♀️

I've already boosted Jerry's pinned post before here but i want to take a quick moment and just put this out there for anyone interested in infosec / cybersecurity / security.

Infosec.exchange is awesome and @jerry rocks. If you are new here and are looking for a home away from one of the dev's instances, or are considering a change from something else you are on, it's a great instance and it's also running glitch-soc which gives it a bunch of cool features the vanilla Mastodon software most instances use don't have.

Also, if you do migrate, please if you can support this great instance!

Hey and specifically peeps, should the configuration (on either the Mastodon and Nginx side) for serving media files from object storage on Glitch-Soc be any different from running mainline ?

I just found a post where the media description doesn't federate into GlitchSoc. The original post has descriptive text, and it also has text when loaded into FireFish. But on glitch, the image has no alt text. Is this a known bug?

as a admin, i'm lacking a bit of information about this, since it's a fork of the main branch of Mastodon.

bebatjof, to mastodon

Small risk, not sure how it's gonna work out:

I enabled auto-expand on cw'd posts (in regular mastodon settings)
In the glitchssoc settings I added exceptions (porn, kink, lewd)
If anyone has suggestions on words to add, let me know :)

If I got it right, this is for text, not for images. I think I'm okay with most text, that's also why I didn't include "nudes" etc. Sensitive media is still hidden (I hope).

(Edit to add: I'm also pretty curious to see how it's gonna work out on elk and yuito. Hopefully they don't just check the mastodon settings but also the glitchsoc additions! )

Other instances running , do we get the full text search?

There's definitely improved search options but the full text search is not available. Or it's possible I have my settings wrong...

Ok I think I have figured out filtering duplicate boosts from public timelines on #glitchsoc. Sort of hard because I have no intuition for order of operations in postgres in subqueries, but I think it should work and only adds 1ms to one of the queries bc of the magic of window functions and snowflake ids

I got in a rabbit hole looking into why md tables weren't formatting in . Glitch's markdown render, RedCarpet, does allow markdown tables, but Glitch nor does the downline fork ( ) running my instance enable it. I'm not entirely sure but it looks like the extensions object at https://github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon/blob/8c76a208ed30cc1bd54262302b2aed27ae142509/app/lib/advanced_text_formatter.rb#L106 simply needs to have a property "tables:true" added to make it work. I'll have to open an issue when I finally get past GH's horrible anti-alias policy.
