For my first proper toot, a photo of an excellent boogie van ca. .

The article that accompanies the photo - Peter Cheney, "Sex, Rugs and Boogie Vans," Globe and Mail, April 15, 2011 - includes anecdotes from the author, working as a mechanic in in the early 80s, of installing a waterbed in one custom, "Playboy mansion" van and a casket in another, vampire-themed van.

What time is the solar eclipse?

Xitter: Why are the woke people trying to stop you looking directly at the Sun? What is it that they're hiding from us? The Sun isn't millions of miles away, everyone knows that. It's safe to stare at the Sun. I do it all the time.

Mastodon: St Mary's University Burke-Gaffney Observatory will have solar telescopes set up in the football field and will have a limited supply of eclipse viewing glasses available between 3:30 PM and 5:45 PM.

Voilà.

💥 Must-read report from Tim Bousquet on Pierre Poilievre's latest campaign rally in #Halifax.

"As #Poilievre spoke, I realized that he in fact needs lots of fact-checking.
The crowd seemed relatively healthy, relatively prosperous & to all outward appearances, #Canada has done them well, at least in comparison to most people in most places in the world.
So I wondered about their evident resentment and anger. Just how have they been wronged?"

Has anyone actually heard Conservative leader Pierre claim that after he's cancelled the carbon tax, Canadian consumers will see big box retailers, gas companies & grocery stores reduce their prices enough to result in significant savings?

Because that's what many of PP's rally attendees think is going to happen. 🤦 Some even think they'll be buying a house straightaway once he's elected.

Victoria Park, by HRM (2024)

The sheer spite of locking away park benches, all to just drive the homeless a couple of dozen metres south to provincial owned land, make them their problem.

City Council and Halifax Mayor Savage are cruel people who have fashioned a cruel city under their tenure.

I can tell you from personal experience how cold it gets in the wee hours trying to sleep rough. Minutes pass like hours, like they do when you're in a lot of pain.

People feel pain.

Today's eviction day for the homeless in public spaces.

I was there the last time. I saw the police pepper spray innocent children passing by and hold hostages to force compliance. It was ugly and brutal and felt like a piece of the future.

The city unquestioningly would want that again except for all the negative publicity it created. Armed goons pepper spraying children was a bad look.

What I know is hitting down is the strategy of bad people, the ones nobody should ever trust.

Anyone else thinking the gun got kind of jumped here in with closing everything down at lunch today?

It does not look like Stormageddon out there to me and from the weather radar we're in the worst of it now.

Anyone receive Bills?

Turn them over & find your 'Stormwater Tier Charge' and see if it matches the legend amounts on the left bottom.

IE: Driveway culvert charge $19 exactly no amount has .16 cents at the end. Times 100,000 customers, $16000 unexplained charges.

Looks like this:

Tier RATE
T1. $0
T2 $19
T3 $38
T4 $76
T5 $115

Driveway Culvert $19

All of these are even dollar amounts.
CHARGED $19.16? an extra .16 ea

I'm sure this would be expensive, but large commercial properties don't need to be downtown, they aren't critical to the core area, but housing is.

MP urges to sell prime city land to make way for new

The 5.7-hectare parcel of land, located between Almon & Young Streets is currently home to a one-level sorting and mail distribution facility. It has been identified by the city as being "strategically positioned for significant density."
