In early December, the Artists at Risk Finland Network (AR-Finland) had its annual gathering over the festive season. Residents and hosts, friends and colleagues, old and new – got together in #Helsinki to discuss the events in 2023 and plan ahead for 2024.
In #Finland this year, we successfully relocated 39 principal Ukrainian applicants and 20 artists at risk from other countries. We’d like to extend our warmest thanks to the AR-residency hosts in Finland.
Not a strudel expert, but the Apfelstrudel in newly opened Südtirol Café on Hämeentie 36 in Helsinki was excellent.
(The street is locally well known for its new bike paths and a partial ban on car traffic, which according to critics is causing a decline in commerce in the area. Contrary to legend, #cycling with summer tyres on ice doesn't hurt you: the sudden urge to turn or brake does. Always go straight on at constant velocity and you'll be fine. Show respect to traffic lights: apply the oncoming car's brakes by sternly looking into the driver's eyes. Don't fight nature: if you need to turn right at an intersection downhill, your time's up.
@boud Today was the worst kind of December day in #Helsinki, it went above 0 so the formerly nice snow became tricky wet ice. But you get to learn how to bike properly in such weather, after falling a couple times on the black ice. ;)

Helsingin kaupungin innovaatioyhtiö Forum Virium Helsinki testaa nyt logistiikan viimeisen kilometrin toimitusten sujuvoittamiseen autonomista robottia, joka osaa toimittaa paketit kotiovelle tarkasti tunnin aikajänteellä.
On 21 November 2023, Finland’s State Art Awards were awarded by Taiteen edistämiskeskus - Taike to artists and art institutions in recognition of their meritorious work, artistic careers and efforts benefiting the cultural field.
Artists at Risk (AR) would like to congratulate two of our Finnish partners, Myymälä2 and ANTI Contemporary Art Festival, who won the State Award for Multi-Arts and State Award for Art and Social Impact respectively.
So it's been a few pretty cold days, well below zero C, but the sea between Herttoniemenranta and Laajasalo is still mostly open. Some wisps of fog (slight sea smoke) on the water.
It was actually already starting to freeze about a week ago already, but then we got some really strong southwesterly winds which apparently came with a pulse of warm water that is taking ages to freeze again. Here you can see how the sea did stay frozen from that narrow part onwards.

What a wonderful thing, a society that values - and nutures - creativity for all.
Lämpömittaria katsellessa muistin, että sehän taitaa olla kohta se aika vuodesta, kun kaupungit yllättyvät, että lunta sataa myös pyöräteille ja jalkakäytäville.
Taas ihmetellään, että miten keli on haastava, mutta silti ajoratojen puhtaanapidossa ei ole mitään ongelmaa. Saadaankohan tänäkin vuonna lukea uutisista, kuinka liikuntarajotteiset ja vanhukset ovat kotiensa vankeina puutteellisen talvikunnossapidon takia? Odotan jo innolla sitä, kuinka lumia ei aurata ajoissa ja niiden annetaan pakkautua, jäätyä ja sitten nollakeleillä sohjoontua! Jännittävää!
Viime vuonna jaksoin vaihtaa pyörään talvirenkaat, mutta tänä vuonna en jaksa vaivautua. Ongelmana ei koskaan ollut liukkaus vaan lumi ja sohjo. Tänä vuonna en aio kiusata itseäni asialla vaan tyydyn suosiolla kävelemään ja käyttämään julkisia 🤷♂️
